Former Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin has sparked a major storm on social media by making a bold remark about the fanbases of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Ravichandran Ashwin dropped a statement that has instantly gone viral while speaking about the ongoing buzz around Ravindra Jadeja’s possible exit from Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Ashwin addressed the question of why Ravindra Jadeja’s rumored trade deal with Rajasthan Royals (RR) didn’t trigger the kind of emotional outpouring on social media one would expect if it involved someone like Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma.
Ravichandran Ashwin sparks calls Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma fans ‘bots’ amid Ravindra Jadeja trade drama
However, Ravichandran Ashwin shocked everyone by claiming that much of the hype around Kohli and Rohit is artificially created. The former Indian off-spinner said that many fan accounts supporting the two Indian icons are not genuine, even calling them “bots.”
He suggested that these paid campaigns often make certain topics trend and stressed that the true CSK fans are expressing genuine emotions for Jadeja.
Ashwin’s comment came amid reports that Jadeja could be traded to the Rajasthan Royals along with Sam Curran in exchange for Sanju Samson. He said that what Jadeja brings to the table—electric fielding, left-arm spin bowling, and strong finishing—is irreplaceable for the CSK.
Ravichandran Ashwin says real CSK supporters are heartbroken over Ravindra Jadeja’s exit
Ravichandra Ashwin said in a video on his YouTube channel, “Maybe it is because of the algorithm, and especially several players get more fandom because of the social media campaigns. But that doesn't mean that the real fans are not talking about that. All I have seen on Instagram over the last few days is about how they are all feeling bad about Jadeja leaving the franchise.”
The former CSK icon added, “Even in the comment section of the videos, people are abusing us, as if we had traded Jadeja out. They are telling me to ask CSK to stop the trade. So, all the love is coming out. In this generation, a lot of people write on social media, but they don't have faces; we can't identify them. Sometimes it is a campaign; sometimes these are bots. The real fans are definitely feeling bad for Jadeja. He is not replaceable for what he brings to the table.”

Ravichandran Ashwin shocked by Ravindra Jadeja’s possible CSK exit; says the deal is all but confirmed
Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin has expressed his surprise over Ravindra Jadeja’s possible exit from the CSK. The former Indian all-rounder said the move feels unusual for CSK, as they are known for trusting and sticking with their players. He noted that the news of Jadeja’s potential trade has left fans heartbroken, with many in the franchise not wanting to let him go.
The former off-spinner believes that CSK’s strength has always been its loyalty and stability, which has built its identity over the years under MS Dhoni’s leadership. He added, “I am actually looking at it (the trade) again, and again, and again, and I am thinking CSK have probably missed a trick.”
However, Ashwin claimed that it is "very, very hard" if the deal fails at this stage, unless "Jadeja or Samson change their mind, or franchises make a U-turn." He signed off by saying, “In my view, this is a trade of chalk and cheese. In many ways, RR got the slot they needed to fill, and CSK got the face that they wanted.”
