Rohit Sharma joins unwanted list of Indian captains with most consecutive Test defeats
Meanwhile, it was India's fourth consecutive Test loss under Rohit Sharma's captaincy. Notably, India had won the Perth Test under Jasprit Bumrah's captaincy. Rohit becomes the third joint Indian captain with the most consecutive defeats for an Indian captain.
The record for the most consecutive defeats for an Indian captain is held by Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, who endured six consecutive losses in the 1967-68 season. After Pataudi, Sachin Tendulkar faced five consecutive defeats as India captain in the 1999-00 series.

Tendulkar was followed by Datta Gaekwad, who experienced four consecutive defeats in 1959; MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, who have also faced a similar fate in 2011, 2014, and the 2020-21 season, respectively. Now, Rohit has found himself in the same list with four consecutive defeats in 2024.
Speaking about the Adelaide Test, Australia delivered a commanding performance to secure a resounding victory under immense pressure in what many dubbed a defining Test for Pat Cummins and his team. They faced immense criticism after their defeat in the Perth Test but made a roaring comeback in style in the second Test of the ongoing BGT 2024-25 in Adelaide.
Australia vs India Adelaide Test Match Highlights
After losing the toss to India, Australia got off to a dream start with the ball, as Mitchell Starc trapped Yashasvi Jaiswal LBW on the very first ball of the game. From that moment, the Indian team never recovered. Starc led the charge with a stunning six-wicket haul, as Australia restricted India to just 180 in the first innings.
Batting under the challenging twilight conditions later that evening, Australia showed resilience. Sam McSweeney and Marnus Labuschagne ensured stability, ending Day 1 with Australia just one wicket down. The next day, it was the local hero Travis Head who stole the show with his blistering knock of 140 runs to thrill the packed Adelaide crowd.
Marnus Labuschagne also hit a solid fifty to help Australia take a crucial lead of 157 runs against India. And then, Australia’s bowlers then made full use of the twilight period on Day 2, ripping through India’s batting lineup once again. The pink ball swung under lights, and the Indian batters crumbled under relentless pressure, and Australia chased down a modest target of 19 runs with extreme ease, sealing a dominant 10-wicket win.
