Rajasthan Royals batting coach Vikram Rathour has said Vaibhav Suryavanshi will enjoy a long career at the highest stage of the game if he keeps working hard. The former India batting coach's comments came after the youngster's historic knock against the Gujarat Titans in the ongoing IPL 2025.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi truly announced his arrival in the IPL with the knock. He smashed a 35-ball century and became the youngest-ever player to score a T20 century.
Suryavanshi breaks a plethora of records
He also broke the record for the fastest century by an Indian in the IPL. Only Chris Gayle has scored a faster century in the IPL than Vaibhav Suryavanshi.
The highly-rated youngster smashed 101 runs off 38 balls with the help of 7 fours and 11 sixes. Thanks to his whirlwind century, the Rajasthan Royals thrashed the Gujarat Titans by eight wickets and returned to winning ways after losing 5 matches in a row.
Batting first, the Titans scored 209/4 in 20 overs with Shubman Gill scoring 84 and Jos Buttler remaining unbeaten on 50. In reply, the Royals chased down the total inside 16 overs by losing only two wickets. Apart from Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Yashasvi Jaiswal impressed with the bat as well, scoring an unbeaten 70.
Everything is special about him: Vikram Rathour on Vaibhav Suryavanshi
Speaking after the game, Vikram Rathour hailed Suryavanshi, saying that 'everything is special about him'. He also predicted a bright and long future for the youngster before advising him to keep working hard.
"Everything is special about him. If he keeps doing it and keeps working hard, he will have a long career. He is a special kid and has a special talent. If he keeps working hard, he will have a special place in Indian cricket," Rathour said in the post-match press conference.
Rathour further said that even though he has been watching Suryavanshi in the nets for the past couple of months, he was amazed at his knock against a formidable attack and in front of such a big crowd. He concluded by calling Suryavanshi's knock extraordinary.
Vikram Rathour predicts a special future
"I thought it was really special. We have been watching him in the nets for the past two months and know what he is capable of. But to do it in front of this kind of crowd and a situation like this against a really good bowling attack. I think it was really special. A lot of credit to him," Rathour said.
"He is a special talent. What makes him special, I think, is that for a 14-year-old kid to play like this makes him special. We saw him four months back when he gave the trial. A lot of credit to him; he has a great temperament today. It was an extraordinary innings," he added.
Meanwhile, the Royals will be hoping to make the most of their latest win and win the remaining league games to keep alive their slim playoff chances. They are currently at the eighth spot in the points table with 3 wins from 10 games.
