The much-awaited return of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to the India National Cricket Team is all but confirmed to be delayed on the upcoming white-ball tour of Australia later this month. However, this time, neither Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir nor chief selector Ajit Agarkar will have any role.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been out of action since winning the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in March with the Men in Blue. However, the former Indian captains were impressive with the bat for their respective MI and RCB teams in the IPL 2025.

The Indian batting icons were set to return to action on the Bangladesh tour, but the BCCI postponed the white-ball tour due to political tension. Due to this cancellation, Virat and Rohit's return to India has already been delayed, and now there is every possibility of further delay in it.

The weather in Western Australia will play a spoilsport in the highly anticipated return of the Indian batting legends. The Men in Blue are all set to play three ODIs in Australia, with the first game scheduled on October 19 in Perth. The ODI series is followed by a three-match T20I series.

Rain looms over the 1st India vs Australia ODI in Perth

Well, the first ODI between India and Australia will be held in Perth, and rain is all set to play the spoilsport. According to BBC Weather and AccuWeather, there will be rain on the night of October 18 and the morning of October 19 in Perth, Western Australia.

The first ODI could be delayed for a few hours, as a couple of morning showers have been predicted by AccuWeather; otherwise, the rest of the day should be fine for the game. But 2.5 hours of rain have been predicted on October 18, mostly at night, and that would play a role in the game.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli set for domestic cricket return in December

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are all set to make a grand return to domestic cricket later this year. It is being said that they will play multiple matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy before India’s home ODI series against New Zealand in January 2026.

The Indian selectors have been pushing for senior players to represent their state teams, ensuring that the country’s domestic structure remains strong and competitive as they prepare for the ICC World Cup 2027. Both Rohit and Virat Kohli are expected to feature for their state sides—Mumbai and Delhi, respectively—once India’s limited-overs tour of South Africa concludes.

With the last ODI against South Africa scheduled for December 6 in Visakhapatnam, the players will have a five-week break before the New Zealand series begins on January 11 in Vadodara. That gap will be perfectly filled by the Vijay Hazare Trophy, India’s premier 50-over domestic tournament, which kicks off on December 24 and runs through early January.

During that time, fans could get a rare chance to watch two of India’s greatest modern-day icons back in domestic action as they eye the ICC World Cup 2027 spot.
