Virat Kohli’s poor form continues, as he left the Indian cricket team and fans frustrated with his hopeless outing in the ongoing opening Test of the three-match Test series against New Zealand at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

New Zealand couldn't have asked for a better start, as Team India’s batting legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are dismissed within the first 10 overs of the first innings at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday, October 17.

Virat Kohli's struggles continue as New Zealand strikes early in Bengaluru Test

The crowd went silent mode as Virat Kohli departed for a duck after facing nine balls at his home venue of the IPL team, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Bengaluru. New Zealand pacer William O'Rourke delivered a ball just short of a length on the off-stump, getting extra bounce due to his height.

The ball nipped back in, and Kohli, attempting a defensive shot, got it off the top of his glove. The ball flew towards the leg gully, where Glenn Phillips dived forward to take a superb catch just before it hit the ground, and Kohli returned to the dugout with another poor score, leaving the Indian cricket team in danger.

New Zealand is capitalizing on the favorable conditions, putting India on the back foot in Bengaluru. Notably, Kohli has come to bat No. 3 position in Test cricket after eight years

Here's how fans reacted to Virat Kohli's another poor show in Tests:

Virat Kohli's most recent duck in Test cricket came during New Zealand’s previous Test tour of India at the Wankhede Stadium, 32 innings ago. Notably, Kohli's current average at the No. 3 position in Test cricket is 16.16 across seven innings, with his highest score being 41.

Virat Kohli achieves an unwanted record in the Bengaluru Test

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli equalled an unfortunate record after being dismissed for a duck on Day 2 of the first Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru. This was the former Indian captain’s 38th international duck, tying him with New Zealand’s Tim Southee for the most by any active cricketer. India's captain, Rohit Sharma, follows closely with 33 ducks to his name in Test cricket.

Additionally, Kohli also surpassed MS Dhoni's record to become India’s second-most-capped international cricketer. The dashing right-hander achieved this milestone on Day 1 of the first Test against New Zealand at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

The ongoing Bengaluru Test is Kohli’s 536th international appearance, overtaking Dhoni's tally of 535 international appearances to become India’s second-most capped at the highest level. Among active Indian players, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja are third and fourth with 486 and 346 appearances, respectively.

After Sarfaraz Khan’s wicket for duck, India's score of 10 runs at the fall of the third wicket is their lowest since September 2018, when they were at 2 runs against England at The Oval. If India bowls out for below 150 runs in the first inning, New Zealand batting in the fourth inning won’t offer much of an advantage to India.

So far, it seems that India’s decision to ban fir was not an ideal one.
