India’s batting maestro Virat Kohli is one of the greatest of all time in the sport’s history. The right-handed batter has also been the most successful captain for India in Test cricket. Virat Kohli was in red-hot form in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, where he used his bat as a run-generating machine breaking numerous records.

In a total of 11 matches for India, Virat scored 765 runs breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s world record of scoring the most runs in a single edition of the ODI World Cup. Virat Kohli scored three centuries and six half-centuries in this year’s megaevent, including one in the final against Australia, which India lost by six wickets.

During the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Kohli broke numerous batting records. He now holds the record for most centuries in the ODI format of the game. Virat Kohli broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI centuries by smashing his 50th in the semi-finals against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium, in front of Sachin.

Virat Kohli is arguably the greatest batter India has ever produced along with Sachin Tendulkar. Virat has opened up about his love for the great Sachin Tendulkar saying that the 50-year-old is his favourite cricketer in the world. Speaking during a candid conversation on One8 Commune’s YouTube channel, Kohli said, “Sachin Tendulkar is my favorite cricketer in the world. He’ll always be at the top for me.”

Virat Kohli Has Broken Several Records Of Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar represented India at the highest level for 24 years, and he still holds the record for playing the most number of matches and scoring the most runs in Tests and ODI formats of the game. Virat Kohli is third on the leading run scores list in ODIs with 13,848 runs to his name. However, he still needs more than 4500 runs to catch up with his idol, who has scored 18,426 runs in 463 ODIs for the Men in Blue.

After scoring his 50th ODI century in the semi-finals against New Zealand, Virat Kohli bowed down to Sachin Tendulkar who was in the crowd. The respect Virat has for his idol is enormous and he has always said that it is completely unfair to compare him with Sachin in terms of anything. Virat Kohli once said that he started playing cricket because of the inspiration he got after seeing Sachin bat.

Sachin Tendulkar said in 2013 that Virat Kohli is one of the players who can break his records and he has proven his idol’s statement correct after his performance in the 2023 World Cup. Virat Kohli will now feature in the two-match test series against South Africa which will be his return to red-ball cricket after almost six months. Virat needs 20 international centuries to equal Sachin’s World record of 100 international centuries.

For Virat to break Sachin’s record he needs to get five international centuries for four consecutive years which is a long way to go given he is already 35 years old. It will be a difficult task for Virat but he can pull it off as he is a phenomenal player.
