Former England captain Jos Buttler and iconic fast bowler Stuart Broad have reignited the age-old debate about cricket's greatest legend between India’s beloved icon Sachin Tendulkar and South Africa’s all-round genius Jacques Kallis amidst the India-England Test series.

Stuart Broad praised both giants of the game, but he felt Sachin Tendulkar’s incredible journey through pressure-packed moments and a staggering 200-Test career made him pick the Indian great over the Proteas legend.

Stuart Broad said on the Love of Cricket podcast, “For balance, you have to go Callis. Probably, in my opinion, the greatest all-round cricketer of all time. But then you talk about winning trophies; I mean Sachin winning the 2011 ODI World Cup in India, in Mumbai.

The pressure he played under compared to Kallis, and I've already named Kallis as but now the more I talk, I think, gosh, what Sachin dealt with and coped with and kept the standard of 200 test matches.”

Jacques Kallis is the best cricketer to have ever played the game: Jos Buttler

Meanwhile, Jos Buttler leaned towards Jacques Kallis, pointing to his insane all-round stats that show the brilliance of two world-class players—a Tendulkar with the bat and a Zaheer Khan with the ball—in one and that the former South African legend is.

Buttler said on the same podcast, “I'm going to say Kallis just because I saw Ricky Ponting say hands down Kallis is the best cricketer to have ever played the game.

But when you put it together, aren't his numbers the equivalent of an average like Tendulkar with the bat and Zaheer Khan with the ball in one cricketer? So, it's pretty hard if you're having to pick a team and pretty hard to look past that.”

God of Cricket vs the ultimate All-Rounder

Well, Kallis and Sachin Tendulkar, both legends, dominated the game in their own way. While the former Indian captain, who was often called the ‘God of Cricket,’ was the master with the bat, the South African legend was a rare blend of class and versatility with both bat and ball.

Sachin Tendulkar played 200 Tests and 463 ODIs for India. He scored a mind-blowing 34,357 international runs, which includes 100 international centuries—a record that still stands tall. In Tests alone, Tendulkar racked up 15,921 runs at an average of 53.78.

He is still the leading run-scorer in Test cricket. In ODIs, Sachin Tendulkar piled up 18,426 runs and finished his career in the 50-over cricket with the ICC Cricket World Cup win in 2011.

On the other hand, Kallis has 13,289 runs at an average of 55.37 and took 292 wickets in 166 Tests. His ODI record is also impressive, scoring 11,579 runs and taking 273 wickets in 328 matches. He was the rock of South Africa’s team for over a decade, delivering with both bat and ball consistently.
