Delhi bowlers shine on Day 1
The match began on January 30 with Delhi electing to bowl first after winning the toss. Railways started poorly as they lost their openers Anchit Yadav and Vivek Singh early. They lost their captain Suraj Ahuja by 14 and were reduced to 21-3.
Railways were soon reduced to 66-5 as they lost Mohammad Saif and the experienced Bhargav Merai in quick succession. The crowd at Arun Jaitley Stadium, which had come from various corners of the country to watch Kohli bat, felt that their star could be out to bat anytime soon.
However, a great partnership between the experienced duo of Upendra Yadav and Karn Sharma followed as both of them collected 104 runs for the next wicket. However, Karn was dismissed by a brilliant catch from Yash Dhull.
It opened the floodgates and the fast bowler Navdeep Saini sensed an opportunity to clean up the tail. He picked up another wicket off the next ball to give his team a big wicket. Himanshu Sangwan contributed with a crucial 29 off 28 balls down the order to take Railways to 241. Saini and left-arm spinner Sumit Mathur picked up three wickets each for Delhi.
In reply, Delhi lost the opener Arpit Rana early but Sanat Sangwan and Yash Dhull stayed till the end to take them to 55-1 at stumps on Day 1. The crowd will be desperately anticipating the time when Virat Kohli comes out to bat on Day 2.
Virat Kohli in BGT 2024-25
Kohli decided to play Ranji Trophy after a poor showing in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made it compulsory for all centrally contracted players to make themselves available for domestic cricket.
Kohli scored 190 runs in five Tests against Australia at an average of 23.75. The star batter will be key to India's chances in the Champions Trophy 2025 where India will play its matches in Dubai.
