Star opening batter Virat Kohli’s injury became a major talking point after Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) suffered their first loss of the IPL 2025 season against Gujarat Titans (GT). RCB head coach Andy Flower provided an update on Kohli’s finger injury, which he sustained during the recent match.
The Bengaluru-based franchise suffered an eight-wicket defeat against Gujarat Titans at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday, April 2. Virat Kohli had a forgettable outing as he scored only seven runs off six balls. He was dismissed by Arshad Khan after being caught at deep backward square leg.

Virat Kohli Injures Finger While Attempting to Stop a Boundary
Virat Kohli injured his finger while attempting to stop a boundary during the Gujarat Titans’ run chase. The incident took place on the fifth ball of the 12th over when Sai Sudharsan played a sweep shot off Krunal Pandya’s delivery. Kohli, who was positioned at deep midwicket, misjudged the ball.
The ball slipped through his hands and reached the boundary. The former India captain was visibly in pain, prompting the team physio to come out and assess him. Notably, the 36-year-old continued fielding after receiving treatment, but his discomfort sparked concerns among RCB fans.

Virat Kohli Looks Fine - Andy Flower
Andy Flower reassured fans about Virat Kohli’s fitness following his finger injury against Gujarat Titans. Speaking at the post-match press conference, Flower confirmed that there were no concerns regarding Kohli’s fitness.
“Virat [Kohli] looks fine, he’s okay, there’s no worry,” Flower said in the post-match press conference.
RCB struggled early in their innings as Phil Salt (14), Devdutt Padikkal (4), and Rajat Patidar (12) fell cheaply, reducing them to 42/4 in 6.2 overs. Jitesh Sharma (33) and Liam Livingstone (54) steadied the innings with a crucial 52-run stand, while Tim David provided a strong finish with a quick 32 off 18 balls.
However, Mohammed Siraj dismantled RCB’s batting lineup with figures of 3/19 in four overs. In response, Gujarat Titans chased the target in 17.5 overs. Sai Sudharsan (49) and Jos Buttler (unbeaten 73 off 39 balls) helped the team to an eight-wicket victory. It was RCB's first defeat of the season.
Mohammed Siraj Bowled Very Well - Andy Flower
The RCB head coach praised Mohammed Siraj for his exceptional performance. Flower said that Siraj’s tight lines and consistent lengths made him a major threat. He also emphasized that RCB is content with their current squad.
"Siraj bowled very well, didn't he? It is great for him to come here and do that. I thought he bowled an outstanding spell with the new ball. His lines were tight, and the lengths were good. He threatened the stumps a lot,' Flower said.
The Bengaluru-based franchise will next take on Mumbai Indians, led by Hardik Pandya, at the iconic Wankhede Stadium on April 7. They are currently in third place in the points table with four points and a net run rate (NRR) of +1.149.
