Former England captain David Gower has hailed the current Indian team under Virat Kohli which is scaling new heights with every Test victory. The fearlessness, the never-give-up belief, the in-your-face attitude of the side is all representational of its captain who is on a mission to conquer the world in the longest format.
Ahead of the upcoming India-England Test series, David Gower, who featured in 117 Tests for England, said Kohli’s outfit is not intimidated by playing away from home as the Indian teams before this used to.
He asserted that the previous Indian teams had had exceptional players, a collective unit has never been this strong in overseas conditions.
Speaking to News18, David Gower said, “Any Test series between India and England is always very very special. And what has changed over the years whenever India has come to England, something which is very obvious is that the fight they show. There were some great performances by some individuals, especially someone like Sunil Gavaskar who used to score all over the world.”
“But there were times when England would try to play home advantage for many players. Nowadays, this Indian team under Virat Kohli is not worried about being in England. The weather is now hot and dry but yes the big difference (with this Indian team, compared to others is) in terms of attitude,” he added.

David Gower then also commended India’s pace-bowling cartel, the best-ever fast-bowling unit India have assembled. In the absence of senior pros in Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Shami, young pacers in Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur, Navdeep Saini, T Natarajan helped India conquer The Gabba.
“Yes, you are right that this current line-up of Indian pacer is best where you have got so many options. Look at this attack, they are very very good and will enjoy bowling with the Dukes balls in these conditions,” the former batsman said.
