In a big relief to Indian cricket fans, positive news has come from England regarding Virat Kohli’s fitness. After being ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against Afghanistan at home, Virat Kohli is recovering well, and things are not as serious as first feared.

Kohli suffered a hamstring injury during the IPL 2026 final, and that ruled him out of the upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, starting on June 13 in Dharamshala. The dashing right-hander played a key role in RCB’s historic title triumph. He smashed 675 runs in 16 matches. Despite the setback, Virat Kohli remains India's most valuable celebrities.

Virat Kohli recovering well, set to be fit for India’s ODI series in England

When the squads were announced for the upcoming UK tours, Indian chief selector Ajit Agarkar confirmed that the hamstring injury ruled Virat Kohli out of the ODI series against Afghanistan as a precaution, but he mentioned there is no fixed recovery timeline yet. Ishan Kishan picked as Virat Kohli's replacement in India XI for Afghanistan ODIs.

But the fresh reports suggest that the former Indian captain’s injury is not that serious. India's senior sports journalist Boria Majumdar, who is currently in England to cover the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026, revealed that Kohli was ruled out to give him rest and proper recovery.

As claimed by him in a Revsportz video on X (formerly Twitter), Kohli is recovering really well and is responding well to treatment. It is being said that the former Indian captain’s injury is not that serious, and he will be available for India’s upcoming three-match ODI series in England.

Virat Kohli to attend an event in Delhi on June 21

The three-match ODI series between India and England is scheduled to start in Birmingham on July 14, and Kohli should be ready in time for the tour. The final match of the ODI series will be played at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London on July 19, and this could be the last time when Kohli and Rohit Sharma play at the Home of Cricket.

Kohli has already arrived in India, and he will attend a brand event in Delhi on June 21, as he will launch his brand, One8World. He will also attend the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru to undergo fitness tests and medical clearance before joining the national side.

He's going to be bigger than Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli: Dale Steyn on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

Former South Africa pacer Dale Steyn believes the young star has the potential to achieve even greater success than Indian legends Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli.

Dale Steyn said, as quoted by Hindustan Times, “Sooryavanshi is a different gravy, man! He's better than most international players right now. He is a boy wonder, somebody who is a treasure for Indian cricket. You think of guys like Sachin and Virat, and this kid is going to explode. He's going to be bigger than both of them put together at the end of his career. So, I would caution how you manage him and look after him because with great responsibility comes great reward.”

Praising Kohli, Steyn said, “I think Kohli's ability to sustain his mental approach to the game, stay fresh, and stay wanting to continue to perform says a lot about him. He's got a lot of self-drive, which is something that I think all of us cricketers had when in my era, and that's the only thing that we had.”
