Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag couldn’t hide his excitement after witnessing the jaw-dropping IPL 2025 thriller between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday (May 3).
Virender Sehwag said that the RCB versus CSK match had everything —comedy, romance, action, thriller, and suspense—that kept fans on the edge of their seats. The former Indian opener admitted that he really enjoyed the thrilling battle between Chennai and Bengaluru.
He noted that he thought at first that the Royal Challengers Bengaluru would not be able to score that many runs, but suddenly, they smashed 55 runs in just two overs and ended up posting 213/5 in their 20 overs against CSK, thanks to fifties from Jacob Bethell, Virat Kohli, and Romario Shepherd.
Virender Sehwag says CSK-RCB clash had it all, except one "Big Hit"
And then, just when it seemed Chennai Super Kings would pull off the chase with ease, their innings saw a dramatic collapse, and they lost the momentum. Sehwag said that CSK had a golden chance to snatch victory from RCB, as they just needed one big hit off the last three balls to win the game, but Yash Dayal’s tight bowling and immense pressure didn’t let that happen.

He also hailed Yash Dayal for delivering under immense pressure once again, as the RCB pacer first trapped MS Dhoni LBW and then kept Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube under check in the final over, as neither of them could hit a boundary or six to seal the game for CSK.
Virender Sehwag said on Cricbuzz, “They needed one big hit in the last three balls. And Chennai would have won the match. But they didn't get a single hit. I have to praise Yash Dayal. He did the same thing again last year in front of Dhoni. And this time not just against Dhoni, but also Jadeja and Shivam Dube. It was fun, and I really enjoyed it.”
RCB survive CSK scare as Virender Sehwag calls it a lucky escape in IPL 2025 thriller
Meanwhile, Virender Sehwag called it a lucky escape for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The cricket expert felt that such matches are usually won by the batting side, especially with experienced players like Ravindra Jadeja at the crease, but luck was on the RCB’s side.
With just 14-15 runs needed in the final over and Jadeja unbeaten on 76, Sehwag believed Chennai Super Kings should have pulled it off, but with no big hits in the end, RCB won the thriller and once again retained the top spot in the IPL 2025 points table with 16 points.

Sehwag explained, “RCB escaped from getting beaten by CSK. I would say that luck has been on their side. Such matches are usually won by the batting team. I would say that 90% of the matches are won by the batting team. Jadeja didn't take a single hit in the last over. He took two singles. He got two balls to play. He made 76 runs not out. I would say that RCB is very lucky.”
Virender Sehwag says RCB ko trophy jeetane me lagi hui hai sari kaaynat
As Royal Challengers Bengaluru all but confirmed their place in the IPL 2025 playoffs, Sehwag hinted that destiny might just be favoring RCB this season. According to the former Indian opener, the whole universe is trying to help RCB win their maiden title in the 18th edition.
Sehwag signed off by saying, “This time, it seems that the whole universe is working towards helping RCB win the IPL trophy in the 18th season.”
