Former India batter Virender Sehwag has found himself in hot water after a gaffe during a live show. Sehwag was talking about the Mumbai Indians and their struggles in IPL 2026 in general when he accidentally referred to ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah as 'Chumrah'.
Jasprit Bumrah has been going through a rough patch of form, and that name has been used by detractors to troll him instead. Sehwag immediately corrected himself, but the incident has left a bad impression on everyone.
Jasprit Bumrah's poor form in IPL 2026
Usually, Bumrah is almost always at his best, but IPL 2026 has not been kind to him. He has been reduced to something even less than a shadow of his previous self.
In 11 matches, he has taken just 3 wickets at a bowling average of 116.33. By league standards, his economy rate of 8.51 looks decent on paper, but his lack of wicket-taking has hurt the other bowlers in his team significantly.
Virender Sehwag calls Bumrah "Chumrah" on air
Speaking on Cricbuzz, Sehwag was answering a question about MI's general struggles in IPL 2026. According to Sehwag, MI's poor bowling show was the biggest deterrent.
"If we talk about the first match, they chased the target of 221 against KKR; since then, their bowling has not performed. Even in that match, their bowling did not do well, because they gave away 220. But, because they won while chasing, people felt that they were a good team," he said.
"And since then, their bowling has been extremely bad. All of their bowlers, like Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Hardik Pandya, 'Chumrah', and Jasprit Bumrah, have not taken many wickets. They have all gone for runs, at least before they used to get the batters out," he added.
"I would especially talk about Jasprit Bumrah. If he takes some wickets with the new ball or in the death overs, he creates pressure. Now, he is not giving away runs, but he's not taking any wickets either. And from the other end, runs are flowing, but the wickets are not falling. So, I think the bowling has let Mumbai down more than the batting," he concluded.
The video of Sehwag's gaffe has now gone viral on the internet, with users debating whether or not Sehwag deliberately did so.

Jasprit Bumrah and the Mumbai Indians' next match
Bumrah will next be in action during the Mumbai Indians' reverse fixture against the Punjab Kings on Thursday. The two teams will meet at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala. In the last game, at the Wankhede Stadium, Quinton de Kock's century could not prevent Punjab from chasing down 196.
Prabhsimran Singh made an unbeaten 80 to lead his team home. Arshdeep Singh was the player of the match for his three-wicket spell with the new ball. In that match, Jasprit Bumrah had conceded 41 runs in 4 overs without taking any wickets.
