The TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 has been one of the most injury-prone seasons. As many cricketers have been ruled out before the tournament, and some in the middle phases. Last night, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer Jamie Overton sustained a right thigh injury and has been out of further participation in the competition this season.
Ahead of CSK’s next game, they have announced the replacement for the England pacer. Dian Forrester will join CSK for INR 75 lakh as a replacement for Overton. The South Africa cricketer is a promising prospect as he made his debut in March 2026 against New Zealand and impressed everyone with his all-round skills during the series.
Jamie Overton was key for CSK
Jamie Overton has been a valuable addition for CSK. The English pacer is the second-highest wicket-taker for the Men in Yellow with 14 wickets in 10 games, and was economical as well. Ruturaj Gaikwad used him well in the middle phases and death overs as well. Jamie Overton has also scored runs towards the back end, playing some small, impactful innings.
CSK has been in good form after their rough start to the tournament. They are well within the playoff race, but Ruturaj Gaikwad’s side has to win all their next game to keep the playoff hopes alive. However, Jamie Overton’s absence will surely create an imbalance in the side with him offering pace bowling and some batting towards the lower order.
Forrester to dawn the Yellow again
Dian Forrester has played a few matches and scored 83 runs. In 36 matches, he has scored 681 runs at an impressive strike rate while averaging 35.84, including two crucial half-centuries and a best of 80* in T20s. He plays for a similar franchise in the SA20, which is the JoBurg Super Kings, and he has been impressive for the Men in Yellow.
Last season, he scored 175 runs with an average of 58.33 and a strike rate of 165.09. He will be a nearly like-for-like replacement for Jamie Overton in the side, but the Proteas cricketer is more of a batting all-rounder than a bowling one. His bowling has not been up to the mark, and bowled in just one innings in 11 matches of SA20.
I can't wait to play in front of packed crowds-Dian Forrester
Forrester recently got a call-up from the Vitality Blast as he replaced his countryman Senuran Muthusamy in the Spitfires squad after he sustained a knee injury while playing in South Africa.
"I'm really excited to be playing for Kent in the Vitality Blast," said Forrester. "Talking to Sam Billings and Justin Kemp about the history of the club and how they love it made me also want to be part of that history, and write my own this summer. "I can't wait to play in front of packed crowds at Canterbury and give my best for the club."
