Former Indian batter Virender Sehwag came down hard on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) after their embarrassing collapse against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in a rain-hit IPL 2025 match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday (April 18).
In a 14-over-per-side contest, Royal Challengers Bengaluru crumbled to just 95/9, with only Tim David’s brilliant 50 off 26 balls saving them from complete disaster against the Punjab Kings at their home ground, where the little fans were seen crying, watching the batter’s embarrassing show.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru's batting woes at home continue in the IPL 2025
Even though Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled their hearts out, sharing five wickets between them, the poor total left them with no chance. PBKS chased down the target with 11 balls and five wickets in hand, as RCB’s reckless approach once again cost them a home match.
It was RCB’s third defeat at home in the ongoing IPL 2025. Well, at one point, RCB were reeling at 42/7 in just 8.2 overs, looking completely clueless on the tricky pitch.
Watching such a shameless batting performance, Virender Sehwag slammed the RCB batters for throwing away their wickets with wild, careless shots, lacking any plan or patience against the PBKS.

RCB batted poorly and gifted the match to PBKS: Virender Sehwag
Sehwag pointed out how not a single batter from the Bengaluru team showed smartness or responsibility to fight it out for the team, and this is the same mistake they keep repeating in the ongoing IPL 2025 at home. Notably, they have won all their away games so far this season.
Virender Sehwag was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz, “RCB batted poorly. All of them played reckless shots to get out. Not a single batter was out to a good ball. At least one batter should've used common sense. If they had wickets in hand, they could have reached 110 or 120 in 14 overs, which would have given them a chance to fight.”

Meanwhile, Arshdeep Singh gave Punjab Kings a flying start, removing Phil Salt and Virat Kohli early. RCB kept losing wickets, with Xavier Bartlett, Yuzvendra Chahal, Marco Jansen, and debutant Harpreet Brar taking wickets regularly at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
RCB’s batting collapsed, as they were bowled out for 95. Sehwag credited PBKS bowlers but blamed the host team’s reckless batting for the poor total on the board. The cricket expert added, “There is a difference between getting wickets and earning wickets.”

Virender Sehwag asks Rajat Patidar to rectify RCB's batting
The former Indian opener wasn’t impressed with RCB captain Rajat Patidar for downplaying the team’s batting failure. This was RCB’s third home defeat in a row this season. RCB has now lost 46 matches at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium — the most by any team at their home ground in IPL.
Sehwag signed off by saying, “Patidar has to think and come up with a solution. They have not been winning at home. Their bowlers are doing well, but why are their batters faltering regularly? It's not alright if your batters continuously fail at home. Who is going to rectify that?”
