VVS Laxman Advocates Cricket's Inclusion In Olympics, Names The Best Format For The Mega Event
VVS Laxman, who has traveled to China as the head coach of the team representing India in the Asian Games has talked about the excitement of playing cricket in China. The Indian Cricket Team will be playing in China for the first time and according to VVS Laxman, it is a great opportunity for the team to represent the nation in the Asian Games.
“This is very different, never-ever thought that we would play cricket in China but this a great opportunity for the entire team because participating in the Asian Games itself is a big opportunity and a matter of great pride for these players, so really looking forward to this tournament,“ VVS Laxman was heard saying about playing Cricket in China in the video uploaded by BCCI on their official website.
He also praised the infrastructure that has been built by China for organizing these Cricket matches in the Asian Games. As we all know, cricket is not a very popular sport in China, China is not taking part in the Men’s Cricket Event of the Asian Games even though they are the host nation. However, Hong Kong is a part of the Asian Games Men’s Cricket event but they maintain their own NOC and represent themselves separately from China due to the International Olympics Committee’s grandfather clause.
VVS Laxman Believes T20 Is An Ideal Format To Be Played In The Olympics
Talking about the possibility of Cricket as an Olympic sport, VVS Laxman was positive that cricket will be added to the Olympics given that the T20 format is ideal for the Olympics. Cricket as a sport is being discussed to be added to the 2028 LA Olympics and VVS Laxman feels that it will be a great opportunity for all the cricketers to win medals in the Olympics.
“I think the T20 format is an ideal format to be part of the Olympics and I am hoping that in the near future, cricket will become a part of the Olympics and all the cricketers will get an opportunity to represent the country and win medals for the country in the Olympics,” said Laxman in the video.
VVS Laxman also talked about the support that the Women’s team got during their matches in the Asian Games and he hopes that the Men’s team will get the same amount of love and support which will help them to win the gold medal. He was optimistic about winning the gold medal and it looks like the Indian team will not disappoint the fans in the Asian Games.
India will face Nepal in the quarter-finals on 3rd October and the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Indian side will look forward to assuring dominance of Indian Cricket in the continent by winning the gold medal. Nepal has been in top form in the event but India has what it takes to beat them.
