VVS Laxman All But Confirms He Will Take Charge As NCA Director

Former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman is all set to replace Rahul Dravid as the next head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA). He has reportedly accepted the BCCI offer and will become the director of cricket in Bangalore starting mid-December.

According to ESPNcricinfo, Laxman accepted the role last weekend after letting Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) know that he will be stepping down from the role of the mentor after eight years with the franchise.

The official statement will be released from the BCCI soon which includes the details of Laxman’s tenure. As of now, it will the former batsman’s first major role in the management side of Indian cricket.

The involvement of Laxman means that the golden generation of batsmen that India had are all working in a management capacity in one way or another, with the exception of Sachin Tendulkar. Rahul Dravid is the new head coach of Team India while Sourav Ganguly is the President of the BCCI.

Similar to Dravid, VVS Laxman will have the responsibility of working with the selection panel to choose the India and U-19 squads, including the appointment of the support staff. His job has been made a bit easier by Dravid who has put into place several programs for the development of players and former players as coaches.

The BCCI is currently conducting interviews to fill the roles of batting, bowling, and fielding coaches – the three departments which will be in an intricate manner with Laxman for the development of the budding players.
