Former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman has heaped high praise on current Team India skipper Virat Kohli, stating that the champion cricketer is a ‘true leader’ and ‘trendsetter’ in Indian cricket.
Virat Kohli added yet another feather to his already illustrious cap during India’s ten-wicket mauling of England in what turned out to be the shortest Test match since World II as he leapfrogged former skipper, MS Dhoni, to become the most successful Indian captain on home soil.
Kohli, who is already the most successful Indian Test skipper after having notched up 35 victories in 59 Tests, has presided over 22 wins in just 29 home Tests, losing just two while five have ended in a draw. India is yet to lose a home series since Virat Kohli took over the leadership reigns in December 2014. Under him, India went on to breach the Aussie barrier for the first time in their history in Test match cricket during the winter of 2018-19.

Laxman also hailed Virat Kohli as a ‘trendsetter’, someone who has brought a fitness culture to Indian cricket. Laxman added that Virat has instilled a never-say-die attitude in the Indian team, something which was on full show during the recent Australian tour, where despite losing a whole host of their first-choice cricketers, the Indians never gave up and eventually won the series 2-1.
“I feel a captain becomes a trendsetter. He not only pays attention to his own performance but when he inspires others while playing his own game, that is the hallmark of a true leader. So I feel Virat Kohli is a true leader because he has not only inspired the players in the team but an entire generation, whether you take fitness, diet and the intensity which he shows on the field,” said VVS Laxman on Star Sports.
“The way he has transformed the mindset of the Indian players as far as fitness is concerned, the character he has built in the Indian team, that never-say-die attitude. He has left a legacy where everyone plays for the country, everyone wants to win matches from difficult situations for the country and he is a trendsetter, there is no doubt about that,” added VVS Laxman.
