The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has undergone a revamp of the national cricket team by appointing former cricketers Wahab Riaz and Sohail Tanvir to crucial roles. This decision follows the disappointing performances of the Pakistan team in the ICC World Cup 2023.
Former Pakistan cricketers Younis Khan, Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Hafeez, and Sohail Tanvir were part of a meeting with PCB Management Committee chairman Zaka Ashraf at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on November 14 to discuss the team’s World Cup performance.
Wahab Riaz Named Chied Selector Of Pakistan Team
Former Test cricketer Tauseef Ahmed was initially appointed as the interim chief selector for the upcoming three-match Test series against Australia. However, Tauseef Ahmed has been removed as Zaka Ashraf continues the search for a new person for the position.
Wahab Riaz, currently serving as the caretaker sports minister, has assumed the role of chief selector, filling the vacancy left by Inzamam-ul-Haq’s resignation due to an alleged conflict of interest. Sohail Tanveer has been appointed as the head of the youth selection team.
Riaz represented Pakistan in 27 Tests, 91 ODIs, and 36 T20Is in his 12-year international career. The left-arm pacer picked up 83 wickets, 120 wickets, and 34 wickets in three formats, respectively. He last played for the national cricket team against New Zealand in 2020.
Shan Masood To Lead Pakistan In Test Series Against Australia
Babar Azam resigned as captain across all formats following the national squad’s return from India. The Pakistan Cricket Board appointed Shaheen Shah Afridi as the T20I captain and Shan Masood for the Tests. The board has yet to make the announcement for ODIs.
Mohammad Hafeez has been appointed as the Director of the Pakistan Men’s Cricket Team, succeeding Mickey Arthur in the role. Hafeez, who was recently a member of the Cricket Technical Committee, takes on this significant position within the cricket setup.
The next assignment for the Pakistan team is a red-ball series against Australia in away conditions, followed by a five-match T20I series against New Zealand. The newly appointed captains, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Shan Masood will lead the team in the upcoming series.
