Pakistan’s experienced pacer Wahab Riaz named Sri Lankan spinner, Wanindu Hasaranga, as one of the best leg-spinners in world cricket at the moment. The two are playing together for the Jaffna Kings in the ongoing Lanka Premier League (LPL).

Hasaranga has risen to fame in the last few months, following his excellent outing against the second-string Indian side. He then bagged himself an IPL contract with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Hasaranga ended up as the highest wicket-taker in the recently concluded T20 World Cup as well.

If I am honest, Wanindu Hasaranga is one of the best leg-spinners right now in the world. Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana have been really good this season for our team. They really set the tones in the powerplay overs by taking wickets and restricting the opposition,” Riaz said as per a release.

The Pakistan pacer also took the names of Jasprit Bumrah and Shaheen Afridi as some of the best bowlers going around in the cricketing world at the moment.

Shaheen Afridi, Hasan Ali, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mitchell Starc. They have a lot of capability. They read the game and execute their plans really well. If they require yorkers, or if they require slow ones, they would read the wicket and bowl accordingly,” Riaz added.

Wahab Riaz went on to name South African batting maestro, AB de Villiers, as the batsman he is scared of bowling at. The 37-year-old de Villiers retired from all forms of cricket recently but he left a lasting impact on the sport courtesy of his inspiring strokeplay and antics on the field with the bat.

There are a lot of such players like Rohit Sharma and Babar Azam who are hard to bowl to. But one player I have always been afraid to bowl to is AB de Villiers. He always knows what is coming next from me. He reads the game well, and always plays well against me,” Riaz added.

Wahab’s most memorable cricketing moment remains the lethal spell in the 2015 World Cup against Australia. Although he is out of favour with the Pakistan team now, he continues playing the T20 leagues around the world.
