"Wanindu Hasaranga's attitude doesn't look serious"- Kamran Akmal rips apart Sri Lankan player

Wanindu Hasaranga, Sri Lanka's ace spinner and a decent all-rounder had a forgetful T20I series against India. He has not been amongst the wickets and runs in the first two games taking just two wickets in the series so far.

So far he has picked up just two wickets with the ball. Additionally, he was out for a first-ball duck in the second T20I against India. With Sri Lanka facing a must-win situation in the second T20I, the performance from Hasaranga did not match his match-winning standards.

After being dismissed for a golden duck trying to slog sweep, Wanindu Hasaranga was taken for 34 runs off his two overs as he proved expensive against India.

Hardik Pandya took a special liking to him. 16 runs were scored off Hasarsanga's first over while 18 off his second over as the misery piled on Hasaranga. Pandya hit him for two fours and a six in his second over.

It was a sorry performance from Sri Lanka with both bat and ball and Hasaranga's all-round credentials were nowhere to be seen. With Sri Lanka already 140/5 when Hasaranga walked out to bat the shot attempted by him was questionable. Sri Lanka slumped from 80/2 to get all out for 169.

The batting lineup crumbled under pressure on back-to-back days. They lost nine for 30 in the first T20I and 7/31 in the second T20I. In both the games though the top-order had given them a good start.

Former Pakistan Cricketers Slams Wanindu Hasaranga's Performance Against India

Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal slammed Wanindu Hasaranga for the way he batted and bowled in the second T20I. Akmal said that he did not look serious on the field with the series on the line for Sri Lanka.

"You've been the captain and are a match-winner. But look how he's batted and bowled. His attitude doesn't look serious on the field. We have seen him give everything in LPL and IPL. You need to have the same commitment while playing for your nation as well" he said.

Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali also took a dig at Hasaranga saying that he thinks that he has become bigger than the game of cricket.

"Number one all-rounder, Wanindu Hasaranga. I think he has become bigger than cricket. Cricket is small, he is big. He got out on the first ball by playing a poor shot. With the ball, he was taken to the cleaners by Suryakumar Yadav and Yashasvi Jaiswal" Basit Ali said on his YouTube channel.

Sri Lanka are already 0-2 down in the three-match series and are staring at a possible whitewash against India. The overall performance of the team is a reflection of why they are ranked eighth on the ICC T20I rankings. Teams like Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Ireland, and Zimbabwe are below them.

Interestingly, despite his recent failures against India, Wanindu Hasaranga is the number one all-rounder in T20Is and number three on the list of top T20I bowlers.

Recently he stepped down as the Sri Lankan T20I skipper after his team's league-stage exit from the T20 World Cup 2024. The team remained winless under his leadership in the tournament.
