The Indian all-round spin bowler Krunal Pandya has signed a contract to join Warwickshire for the Royal London Cup, and this august will mark his debut in county cricket.

The 31-year-old Krunal will compete in the domestic 50-over competition beginning on August 2 alongside Washington Sundar (Lancashire) and Cheteshwar Pujara (Sussex), who are not included in India’s ODI or T20I teams for their series against England this month.

With additional seats up for consideration at the domestic wildcard draught the following week, Warwickshire is expected to lose at least ten players to the Hundred. They anticipate that Krunal will serve as a mentor for the young players on their 50-over team.

“We will lose players to the Hundred as a result of our outstanding T20 performances, but good teams usually lose players, said Farbrace. We think this is an excellent chance for our young players to develop from Krunal, and I am sure he will be eager to help them hone their abilities as well.”

The Royal London Cup’s reputation has suffered since the Hundred was introduced last year since England’s top white-ball players are not available for county duties while they compete in the Hundred.

The BCCI does not let current Indian players participate in T20 leagues outside of the IPL, including the Hundred, thus the Royal London Cup’s prestige is improved by the participation of three well-known players.

Warwickshire’s director of cricket Paul Farbrace said, “Krunal is an incredible signing to the club, and I am happy to welcome him to Edgbaston.” Krunal will bring a lot of international expertise to a team that will be driven to succeed.”

The Royal London Cup is a domestic 50-over competition that begins on August 2.
