Despite starring in the thrilling win over Mumbai Indians on Sunday, Kings XI Punjab star Chris Gayle has said he was ‘angry and upset’. A total of 43.4 overs were bowled in the crazy game to decide the winner as not one but two super overs were played out.

Both the teams finished on 176 in their respective 20 overs. In the first super over, Jasprit Bumrah bowled brilliantly to restrict KXIP to 5.  Mohammed Shami was equal to the task too as he too restricted Mumbai Indians to 5 before the second super over took place.

Batting first in the second super over, Mumbai Indians scored 11 runs against Chris Jordan. In reply, KXIP chased down the score in four balls. Chris Gayle hit the first ball bowled by Trent Boult for a six before Mayank Agarwal dispatched the third and fourth deliveries for fours to end the game.

Speaking at the end of the match, Chris Gayle said that he wasn’t nervous before going out to bat for the super over but was instead “angry and upset” that KXIP found themselves in a position they have known too well this season.

“No I wasn’t nervous (laughs). I was a bit more angry and upset that we got ourselves in this position,” Chris Gayle told Mayank Agarwal on IPLT20.com. “But it’s a game of cricket and these things do happen.

He further said that Shami was his pick for the Man of the Match for defending 5 runs in the super over against the likes of Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock.

“Shami is the man of the match for me. To defend six runs against Rohit and de Kock, that’s fantastic. That’s a great job. I have faced you in the nets and I know that you can nail those yorkers, and nail them well. Today he came and delivered and brought it home for us,” said Chris Gayle.
