SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) opener Abhishek Sharma scored his maiden IPL century during the recent match against Punjab Kings (PBKS). The southpaw revealed that he had been unwell for four days and former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh and Mumbai Indians’ (MI) batter Suryakumar Yadav supported him.

Abhishek Sharma helped SunRisers chase down a challenging target of 246 runs against Punjab at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Saturday, April 12. The opener scored 141 runs off just 55 balls, including 14 fours and 10 sixes. He set the record for the highest individual score by an Indian in IPL history.

I Was Sick for Four Days – I Had a Fever - Abhishek Sharma

In a post-match press conference, Abhishek Sharma revealed that he had been sick for four days. He mentioned that Yuvraj Singh and Suryakumar Yadav continuously supported him. The left-handed batter stated that their faith helped him regain confidence.

"To be honest, I was sick for four days-I had a fever. But I feel really grateful to have people like Yuvraj Singh and Suryakumar Yadav around me. They kept calling, kept checking in, and they believed in me," Abhishek said in the post-match press conference.

"Even when I started to doubt myself a little, they didn't. That belief from people like them-it matters a lot. When someone like that believes in you, you start believing in yourself again. For me, it was just about that one innings. I was waiting for it. And today it came," he added.

Abhishek had struggled in his first five matches for SRH, scoring only 51 runs at an average of 10.50. Yuvraj Singh has mentored Abhishek for a while, while Suryakumar Yadav is a close friend.

I Wrote It Today Itself - Abhishek Sharma on Mystery Note

Abhishek Sharma celebrated his century in a unique way by pulling out a note from his pocket that read, "This one is for Orange Army." Sharma said that he had written the note earlier that day.

"I wrote it today itself," Abhishek said of the note, "because I usually wake up and write something. I got a random thought that if I do something today, that would be for Orange Army. Luckily, today I felt it was my day."

SunRisers Hyderabad Break Four-Match Losing Streak

SRH entered the game under pressure. They had lost their previous matches and were at the bottom of the points table. Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head added 171 runs in 12.2 overs during a 246-run chase. Head scored 66 runs off 37 balls, including nine fours and three sixes, before being dismissed.

SRH completed with nine balls to spare. It was the second-highest run chase in the history of the tournament.

With this victory, SRH ended their four-match losing streak and moved up to eighth place in the points table. They have four points and a net run rate (NRR) of -1.245. The Pat Cummins-led team will face Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium on April 17.
