Mohammed Siraj provided the early breakthrough in the ninth over of the West Indies’ second innings. Shubman Gill pulled off a sharp catch to remove Tagenarine Chanderpaul. Siraj bowled a cross-seamed delivery that squared up Chanderpaul (10 off 30), and Gill took the catch at short mid-wicket.
John Campbell and Alick Athanaze tried to end the session without further losses. However, Washington Sundar produced a near-perfect delivery to castle Athanaze. The off-spinner drifted the ball in toward the middle stump before it sharply turned away.
Athanaze, attempting a defensive push, was beaten by the late movement as the ball clipped his off stump. The left-handed batter had to depart after scoring seven off 17 balls. It was Sundar’s first wicket of the match and a dream ball for any spinner. Athanaze was left stunned after the dismissal.
