Wasim Akram's brutal response to Yograj Singh's criticism
While speaking in a local TV show 'Dressing Room', Wasim Akram replied to Yograj Singh's comments in which the latter slammed the former Pakistan quick of just speaking in a studio and not willing to help out the players.
Akram didn't take Yograj's name but it was clear that the words were directed at him. He accused Yograj of disrespecting the others and also cited the example of Waqar Younis, who has worked as the team's coach several times and has also been sacked repeatedly.
"People still on and off either criticize me or have a go at me that all he does is talk and nothing else. When I see Pakistan coaches – I see Waqar (Younis) here, who has been sacked quite a few times after becoming a coach – and their condition," said Akram.
"Aap log badtameezi karte hain (You guys disrespect them), I cannot tolerate it," the former Pakistan pacer added.
Waqar Younis has worked with the Pakistan team during various tenures in 2006, 2010, and 2016. However, he was removed from the role on all three occasions. In 2006, he joined as the bowling coach while he was the head coach the other two times.
Wasim Akram willing to help Pakistan
Wasim Akram further claimed that he is ready to help the Pakistan cricket team without any fees. However, he doesn't want to take the pressure of working as the head coach but wants to share his experiences before any big tournament.
"I want to help Pakistan cricket. Why do you want to pay me? I am available free of cost. If you organise a camp and want me to be there, I will. If you want me to spend time with cricketers ahead of a big tournament, I will do that," Akram said.
"But I am 58 years old and at this age, I am not going to take such insults which you guys do. I cannot lead a stressful life at this age," he added.
What did Yograj Singh say?
Earlier, Yograj Singh had said that Pakistan's former players like Wasim Akram and Shoaib Akhtar should be ashamed of themselves for only speaking and not helping out the players when they need them the most.
"Such big players like Wasim Akram, saying such disgusting things? And people around him are laughing. They should be ashamed. Shoaib Akhtar, such a big player, you are comparing Pakistan's players with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli?" Yograj told SportsNext.
"Wasim ji, you are sitting there and making money, no? Go back to your country and conduct a camp. I want to see which of you greats can help Pakistan win a World Cup. If not, resign," he added.
Yograj even went on to say that he is ready to go to Pakistan and help the country's players. He claimed that he will make this team a better one within a year.
Pakistan crashed out of the Champions Trophy 2025 after losing to New Zealand and India. Their final match against Bangladesh was washed out due to rain, which left them winless in their home ICC tournament.
