Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer has voiced his opinion about Bangladesh after their defeat in the recent clash against South Africa in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Wasim Jaffer feels that Bangladesh would have won the match if Mahmudullah was not given wrongly out.
South Africa defeated Bangladesh by 4 runs in match 21 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Bangladesh failed to chase the 114-run target set by Proteas in the first innings on the slow-batting pitch at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
Opting to bat first, South Africa could only add 113-6 in 20 overs, losing their three crucial top-order batters for single digits. Quinton de Kock added 18 runs as an opener. Later, Heinrich Klaasen (46) and David Miller (29) added some runs to take the scoreboard to 113-6.
Later, Bangladesh lost their batters cheaply against a sharp spin and pace attack by Proteas bowlers. Pacers Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje grabbed 2 wickets each while Keshav Maharaj clinched a 3-wicket haul to halt Bangladesh at 109-7 in 2nd innings.
Feel for Bangladesh: Wasim Jaffer on Mahmud Ullah's wrong LBW dismissal
Ranji Trophy stalwart Wasim Jaffer has noted a crucial point regarding the Bangladesh vs South Africa match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Interestingly, Mahmudullah was given out LBW by an on-field umpire during the match.
The ball hit Mahmadullah's leg and went for a boundary. The Bangladesh batter took a review and he was sentenced not out by the third umpire. However, although he was given not out, his team wasn't allotted the boundary.
As per the rules, the ball became dead after the umpire's LBW decision and therefore, the boundary was not given. Shockingly, Bangladesh lost the game by 4 runs in the end. Therefore, the Asian side could have won the match if they had been given the boundary earlier. Wasim Jaffer took to X to share his opinions on the matter.
"Mahmudullah was wrongly given out LBW, the ball went for four leg byes. The decision was reversed on DRS. Bangladesh didn't get the 4 runs as the ball is dead once the batter is given out, even if wrongly. And SA ended up winning the game by 4 runs. Feel for Bangladesh fans. #SAvBAN #T20WC", the former Mumbai player tweeted. Have a look at his tweet below.
