Wasim Jaffer Labels Hardik Pandya As His No.1 Captaincy Choice After Rohit Sharma In White-ball Cricket

Former India National Cricket Team opener Wasim Jaffer has said that the star all-rounder Hardik Pandya is his No.1 captaincy choice in the white-ball cricket after current skipper Rohit Sharma.

Hardik Pandya led Gujarat Titans (GT) to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 triumph in his debut season as a skipper. Also, the Indian Premier League 2022 was Gujarat Titans’ debut season.

After Hardik’s success in the Indian Premier League, he was named as Rishabh Pant-led India’s vice-captain for the home T20I series against South Africa in the absence of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul.

Also, on Wednesday, the BCCI named India’s squad for the upcoming two-match T20I series against Ireland and Hardik has been named as skipper in the absence of Pant, Rohit and Rahul.

Meanwhile, former India opener Jaffer has said that the BCCI selection committee should look seriously at Hardik for the captaincy role in white-ball cricket.

“He deserves it. Going forward, Indian selectors should look at him seriously for leading in white-ball cricket. Especially if Rohit Sharma is not available, Hardik Pandya should be the first choice in my opinion,” said Jaffer on ESPNCricinfo.

Jaffer further said that India should appoint Hardik as Rohit’s deputy in white-ball cricket as he enjoys the captaincy and brings the best out of himself as well as his players.

“The way he led in the IPL, the way his performances came through, he is somebody who relishes that job. Going forward he is probably my number one choice after Rohit Sharma,” said Jaffer on ESPNCricinfo.  

“If Rohit is playing, I would like Hardik to be the vice-captain in white-ball cricket. He is somebody who enjoys their job and gets the best out of himself and others. Everybody feels at home and he gets the best out of the other players. So he is my next in line after Rohit Sharma,” said Jaffer. 

Notably, KL Rahul is looked at as India’s next captain across all three formats and Rishabh Pant is next in line to Rahul.
