Former India opener Wasim Jaffer took a funny jibe at Pakistan captain Babar Azam after he dethroned India’s Virat Kohli as the new no.1 ODI ranked batsman in the latest update of the ICC ODI batting rankings on Wednesday.
Babar Azam’s brilliant outing in the three-match ODI series between Pakistan and South Africa recently enabled him to go past the Indian captain Virat Kohli and become the new no.1 ranked ODI batsman.
With achieving this accolade, Azam became the fourth Pakistani batsman to become no.1 ranked in ODI cricket after Zaheer Abbas (1983-84), Javed Miandad (1988-89), and Mohammad Yousuf (2003). Babar Azam had made his debut for Pakistan in 2015 and has quickly become one of the best batsmen in all formats of international cricket.
Babar Azam had scored a century in the first ODI against the Proteas and then made 94 in the 3rd and final ODI against the Proteas, to gather 13 rating points thanks to his innings, which took him to 865 rating points and he frog leaped Virat Kohli to become the new no.1 ranked ODI batsman and now leads the Indian captain by 8 rating points.
In Tests, Babar has attained the best of the fifth position and is currently ranked sixth while in T20Is he is third but has been number one in the past.
