Young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal clobbered Australian pacer Mitchell Starc in the second innings of the fifth Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 series. Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed four fours in the over when Mitchell Starc came to bowl the first over in India's second innings in Sydney.

Debutant Beau Webster played a crucial role for Australia on Day 2 of the New Year’s Test. He smashed his maiden Test fifty, scoring 57 off 105 balls, which included five boundaries. Australia was bowled out for 181 in 51 overs, trailing India by four runs in the first innings at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Yashasvi Jaiswal made a spectacular start to India's second innings. The young batter smashed four consecutive boundaries off Mitchell Starc in the opening over. Jaiswal expertly cut a short and wide delivery over the slip cordon for a boundary. He played two more cut shots for boundaries off the next two balls

Starc overcorrected with a full delivery wide of off-stump, and Jaiswal capitalized by driving it through extra cover for a fourth boundary. Jaiswal’s 16 runs off the first over is the most by an Indian batter in the first over of a Test innings. It was also Starc's most expensive opening over in a Test at home in his career.

Jaiswal and Mitchell Starc have been involved in notable battles since their first encounter in the opening Test in Perth. While Jaiswal has scored more than 130 runs off the left-arm pacer, he has also been dismissed by Starc four times. This ongoing rivalry has captured attention from fans and experts.

First Over Came Too Slow for Yashasvi Jaiswal - Irfan Pathan

Former Indian cricketers Aakash Chopra and Irfan Pathan praised Yashasvi Jaiswal's explosive start in India's second innings. Chopra emphasized how Jaiswal's four boundaries in the opening over set the stage for an exciting game, while Pathan urged not to get carried away too early.

"Lead by four runs. And four boundaries in the first over. This game is 🔥 #INDvsAUS," Aakash Chopra tweeted.

"First over came too slow for Yashasvi Jaiswal. What a start. Dont get carried away," Irfan Pathan wrote.

Jaiswal has been a standout performer for India in the ongoing five-match Test series in Australia. He has scored 391 runs at an average of 43.44, including a century and two fifties. His best performance came in the series opener in Perth, where he scored 161 runs, contributing to India's 295-run victory.
