Abhishek Sharma's promising start in the ongoing first T20I between India and Bangladesh in Gwalior ended in an unfortunate manner. The youngster was run out for 16 runs in the series opener.

After being a shock omission for the T20I series against Sri Lanka in July, the southpaw was recalled to the T20I side for the ongoing three-match series. Before the Sri Lanka series, he had made his debut for India during the five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe.

The left-handed batsman had scored a stunning hundred in the series. Before that, he had impressed in the Indian Premier League as well. On Sunday, Abhishek Sharma finally played his first T20I on the home soil. And he started his batting in a promising manner.

In the second over of India's innings, the Punjab star made his intentions clear by taking Taskin Ahmed to the cleaners. He hit the very first ball of the over for a six down the ground. On the second ball, Abhishek Sharma hit a four.

It was followed by a dot delivery before the India opener hit another four. On the fifth ball of the over, he took a single to race away to 16 runs from just 7 balls. His promising knock, however, ended on the very next ball when a miscommunication with his opener partner Sanju Samson led to his run out.

Taskin's delivery was played towards short mid-wicket by Samson. The right-handed batsman took a couple of steps forward after playing the shot and Sharma thought that his partner wanted a quick single. He took off immediately only to be sent back by Samson.

In the meantime, Towhid Hridoy picked up the ball and hit the stumps at the non-striker's end with a direct throw. Sharma was well short of his crease and had no option but to walk back to the pavilion.

Talking about the game, India were on 72 for 2 in the 7th over at the time of writing this report. Samson and Suryakumar Yadav added 40 runs for the second wicket. Mustafizur Rahman broke the stand by dismissing Suryakumar for 29.

Samson and debutant Nitish Reddy were batting in the middle at the time of writing this report. Earlier in the game, India came up with a fine display with the ball to bowl out Bangladesh for 127 runs.
