Abhishek Sharma scored his maiden T20I century in just his second T20I for India on Sunday. It resulted in a 100-run win for India and a series-leveling win at that. The contest has tightened up with three matches to go.
Abhishek Sharma was out for a duck on his T20I debut and made the most of it in his second T20I. He scored 100 off 47 balls decimating the Zimbabwe bowlers to all parts of the ground. He maintained a strike rate of over 200 throughout his knock. He got to his first fifty off 34 balls and scored his next 50 off just 13 balls as he was unstoppable.
He got off the mark in T20Is with a six and got to his 100 with three consecutive sixes as well. He became the first batsman to get to his T20I century in that manner. He became the sixth Indian batter to get to his century with a six and also took the fewest innings (2) to score his maiden T20I century.
He added 137 runs with Ruturaj Gaikwad and was dismissed in the final ball of the 14th over after he brought up his 100. After his dismissal, Gaikead and Rinku Singh (48* off 22) added 87 runs in the last five overs to help India post the mammoth total. The Indian bowlers then backed up their batters as they bowled out Zimbabwe for just 134 runs.
Mukesh Kumar and Avesh Khan took three each while Ravi Bishnoi took two and Washington Sundar one. The Zimbabwean batters failed to show any resistance in the chase this time around. It was a completely dominating performance from India in the second T20I.
A clip of Abhishek Sharma's family celebrating his century has gone viral on social media. They were all smiles after their son got to the special landmark. Sharma was included in this Indian team for the series on the back of his brilliant performance in the IPL. He scored 484 runs in 16 innings with a strike rate of 204.02 for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

In his post-match interaction, he spoke about taking on his instincts and playing in an aggressive manner that helped him to get to this landmark.
"I think it was a pretty good performance by me, the defeat we had yesterday, it wasn't easy for us. I felt today was my day and I made it count. I feel T20 is about momentum and I took it to the end" the Southpaw said.
It was a terrific turnaround for India within 24 hours of losing the first T20I on the same pitch. In the first game, they could not chase 116 but in the second, they just did not give Zimbabwe a chance to come back into the game after their effort with the bat.
Skipper Shubman Gill praised the efforts of his players for the comeback they did after the first T20I loss.
"Very happy, great to be back on the winning note back again. Yesterday, it was more about not being able to handle the pressure, it's a young side and many of them are new to international exposure. It was good to have pressure in the first game and we knew what to expect coming into this game. We have got three matches to go and we are looking forward to them" said Gill.
