England leg-spinner Adil Rashid broke an important partnership to dismiss Afghanistan's captain Hashmatullah Shahidi during the Champions Trophy 2025 match between the two sides played at Lahore.
Adil Rashid bowled a full delivery and defeated Hashmatullah Shahidi in the flight. The batter tried to reverse-sweep the ball but missed it completely. The ball just went under his attempted swipe and clattered the stumps.
Shahidi was looking solid at the crease but was unable to play a big innings for his team. However, he formed an important partnership with the opener Ibrahim Zadran to bail Afghanistan out of trouble.

Hashmatullah Shahidi was dismissed for 40 off 67 balls. He hit 3 fours during his knock. He tried to up the scoring by playing an unconventional shot and paid the price for it.
The Afghanistan captain played well for his innings. He formed a partnership of 103 runs for the fourth wicket with Ibrahim Zadran. It was an excellent partnership that rescued Afghanistan out of deep trouble.

Afghanistan had sinked to 37-3 early as Jofra Archer had ripped through their top order with the wickets of Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Sediqullah Atal, and Rahmat Shah.
However, Ibrahim and Shahidi were excellent during their solid partnership. The duo played sensibly and didn't take undue risks. They rotated the singles well and waited for the bad balls.
Ibrahim Zadran was more aggressive out of the two players as he brought up his half-century off 65 balls. He later went on to complete a magnificent century off 106 balls. Zadran is one of the most technically solid batters in the Afghanistan team and showed his worth here.
The wicket of Shahidi was the first for Adil Rashid in this game. Afghanistan's batters looked to take risks against him by putting him under constant pressure.

Adil Rashid had a good day in the last match against Australia where he finished with 1-47 in 10 overs. The rest of the England's bowlers were put under the pump by the Australian batters as they chased down a target of 352 runs with more than two overs to spare.
Rashid is a genuine wicket-taker for England in the middle overs. The legspinner has the ability to flight the ball and ahs been a key player for their white-ball teams.
The 37-year-old has played 147 ODIs and picked up 213 wickets at an average of 32.68 and an economy rate of 5.63. On pitches conducive for run-scoring, Rashid's ability to pick up wickets in the middle overs will be vital for England.
This match is a must-win game for both Afghanistan and England. Afghanistan lost to South Africa in their first match while England lost to Australia despite putting a score of more than 350 runs on the board.
