South Africa's stand-in captain Aiden Markram got furious at his team's fast bowler Lungi Ngidi for missing a simple run-out chance during the match against England in the ongoing Champions Trophy.

The incident happened in just the fourth over of the match when Lungi Ngidi was bowling. Ngidi bowled a length delivery outside off stump which was steered down past backward point. It seemed like a certain boundary but Tristan Stubbs chased down the ball just inside the boundary line.

He threw the ball towards the bowler's end as Duckett was struggling to complete the third run. However, Ngidi wasn't at the bowler's end to collect the ball and run him out. Aiden Markram tried his best to reach the non-striker's end from mid-on but failed to run him out.

Duckett would have been well short of his crease had someone been there. Skipper Markram was fuming at the bowler as he wanted him just behind the stumps. Ngidi was also disappointed for missing an easy opportunity.

It could have been a big moment in the game as Duckett was batting on 14 at that time. However, the left-handed opener was dismissed just three overs for 24 off just 21 balls as he chipped a simple return catch to Marco Jansen off his own bowling.

Jansen gave South Africa a fine start with three big wickets in his first spell with the new ball. It broke the back of England's batting line-up and they were unable to recover.

Ben Duckett's numbers in Champions Trophy 2025

It marked the end of a good tournament for Ben Duckett, although he was unable to take England to the semi-finals. He emerged as one of the bright spots for England in a tournament where they have struggled to find their rhythm.

Duckett is currently the highest run-getter in the tournament with 227 runs in three matches at an average of 75.66 and a strike rate of 108.61 with a century against Australia to his name.

Excellent day for stand-in skipper Aiden Markram

It was a good day on the field for the stand-in skipper Aiden Markram as he marshalled his troops perfectly. England chose to bat first after winning the toss but were unable to find any rhythm.

True to their nature, they looked to attack from the first over. Phil Salt struck two boundaries off Jansen but was dismissed in the same over. Jamie Smith was also dismissed in a similar fashion by Jansen as he top edged a short of a length ball.

A brief partnership between Joe Root and Harry Brook followed after Ben Duckett's dismissal but Aiden Markram brought Keshav Maharaj to the attack and he broke the partnership by dismissing Brook.

Allrounder Wiaan Mulder bowled a stunning delivery to get the big wicket of Joe Root as England were reduced to 103-5. Maharaj also picked up the wicket of the dangeorus Liam Livingstone as England's position worsened.
