Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Ajinkya Rahane was disappointed following his team's performance in the IPL 2025 match against Punjab Kings (PBKS). The veteran batter shared an unfiltered chat with Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper Shreyas Iyer, and the video quickly went viral across social media platforms.
Punjab pulled off a 16-run victory over the defending champions in the 31st match of IPL 2025 on Tuesday, April 15. PBKS defended a total of 112 runs – the lowest total defended in IPL history. KKR seemed to be on track to chase down the target, but Yuzvendra Chahal's spell turned the match in PBKS's favor.
Kya Faltu Batting Kari Humne - Ajinkya Rahane
After Punjab Kings' surprising victory over Kolkata Knight Riders, Shreyas Iyer, who is close friends with Ajinkya Rahane, was visibly emotional. Rahane acknowledged KKR's poor batting performance during the customary handshake.
In a viral video, Rahane, with a big smile on his face, admitted to his Mumbai teammate and PBKS skipper. The KKR skipper's words about the disappointing performance quickly went viral on social media.
"Kya faltu batting kari humne," (What a disastrous batting effort from us), Rahane told Iyer in Mumbaiya hindi before shaking hands and hugging him.
Was watching the #PBKSvKKR game and caught this funny bit as Shreyas and Rahane shook hands at the end. In a self-deprecating way Rahane appears to be saying to Shreyas in Marathi : काय फालतू बॅटिंग केली ना आम्ही (We played terrible, didn't we) 😂😂 pic.twitter.com/bNkC7TXGbU

Ajinkya Rahane’s Dismissal Proves Turning Point in Punjab’s Win
Kolkata Knight Riders were in control while chasing a target of 112, reaching 62/3 in eight overs. However, the game turned when Ajinkya Rahane misjudged a Yuzvendra Chahal googly and was trapped leg-before. Replays showed the ball was missing the stumps, but Rahane did not review the decision.
That costly error triggered a collapse, as Kolkata crumbled from 71/3 to 95 all out in just six overs. Chahal claimed four key wickets - Rahane, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Rinku Singh, and Ramandeep Singh - finishing with a match-winning spell of 4/28 to guide Punjab Kings to victory.
Andre Russell hit a few boundaries in a brief counterattack, but Punjab’s pacers Arshdeep Singh and Marco Jansen wrapped up the innings. The win marked the lowest total ever successfully defended in IPL history.
We All Saw What Happened There - Ajinkya Rahane
After the match, Ajinkya Rahane expressed his disappointment over Kolkata Knight Riders' performance. Rahane also revealed that there was uncertainty about whether to review the LBW decision during a brief chat with Angkrish Raghuvanshi.
"Nothing to explain, we all saw what happened there. Pretty disappointed with the effort. I will take the blame (for his dismissal), played the wrong shot, although it was missing. He was not very sure (his chat with Angkrish Raghuvanshi) after being given out LBW). He said it could be the umpire's call. I did not want to take a chance at that time, I was not sure as well. That was the discussion," Rahane said.
Kolkata Knight Riders slipped from fifth to sixth place on the IPL 2025 points table after their loss to Punjab Kings. A win would have taken them into the top four, but they failed to chase down the target. KKR will take on Gujarat Titans (GT) in their next match at Eden Gardens on Monday, April 21.
