Watch: Akash Deep make amends for no-ball, castles Zak Crawley with a beauty for the second time

Akash Deep has made a dream debut in Test cricket, taking three wickets in quick succession to put India well on top in the ongoing fourth Test against England in Ranchi.

While many expected his state teammate Mukesh Kumar to replace Jasprit Bumrah in the playing eleven because of his experience, the Indian team management decided otherwise. The team management allowed the 27-year-old to prove himself in Test cricket and he has justified the faith shown in him.

While India’s pacers struggled to give the team early breakthroughs in the first three Tests of the series, Akash Deep ran through England’s top-order. The right-arm pacer could have had his maiden Test wicket in his very second over when he castled Zak Crawley with a beauty. However, he had overstepped and the delivery was adjudged a no-ball.

Akash Deep sends back Zak Crawley:

After being denied his maiden Test wicket due to a no-ball, Akash Deep bounced back in style. In the 10th over of the game, he dismissed Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope to reduce England to 47 for 2 from 47 for no loss. He made Duckett edge one behind the stumps to the wicketkeeper to open his account in Test cricket before sending back Pope for a duck.

And in his very next over, he made amends for the no-ball by castling Crawley once again. After the early reprieve, Crawley found his rhythm and was batting on 42 off just 41 balls before being dismissed by the debutant. The ball nipped back in sharply and beat Crawley’s bat before going on to hit the top of the off stump.

Crawley’s dismissal saw England getting reduced to 57 for 3 after a promising start. At the time of writing this report, the visitors were on 71 for 3 with Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow fighting it out in the middle. India are currently leading the series 2-1. While England won the series opener by 28 runs, India won the next two Tests to take the lead.
