Akash Deep Destroys Joe Root and Ben Duckett's Stumps

The Bengal pacer walked into the Indian team for the Edgbaston Test as a replacement for the pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, who was rested for the game.

Akash made sure that the Indian team didn't miss Bumrah and delivered an excellent performance in the first innings, finishing with the bowling figures of 20-2-88-4, including the dismissals of Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope on back-to-back deliveries.

Speaking after the end of the day's play to reporters, Akash said that he was unsure of his selection in the playing XI in the third match at Lord's despite his stellar performance in the first innings.

Meanwhile, Akash let his bowl do the talking for him in the second innings and almost guaranteed himself a spot at the Lord's Test. He provided India with a stunning start by picking two big wickets of Ben Duckett and Joe Root inside 11 overs.

First, he dismissed Ben Duckett on the third ball of the fifth over. He bowled a sharp nipbacker on the back of a length outside off stump, and Ben Duckett inside-edged the ball into the stumps, getting out for 25. Akash was pumped up after getting the wicket and celebrated aggressively.

Then, on the second ball of the 11th over, Akash Deep bowled an absolute ripper to rattle the stumps of the legendary batter Joe Root.

He went wide on the crease to create a greater angle and bowled a fuller length ball to Root, who tried to play it towards the onside, but missed completely and saw his stumps getting destroyed.

After dismissing the World No.1 batter for 6, Akash was seen doing an 'I'm here' celebration to seemingly send a message to the head coach Gautam Gambhir not to drop him.

Akash is making this ball talk - Akash Deep

Speaking on Sky Sports, Nasser Hussain lauded Akash for making the new ball talk and rattling the stumps of Ben Duckett with a beauty. He said:

"Akash Deep is making this ball talk. An absolute beauty from round the wicket! India all over England. India's new ball bowlers again have been excellent, which will be a bit of a concern for England, that the Indian seamers have got more out of this pitch than they have.

"England were 25-3 in the first innings and are now 30-2 in the second. Joe Root has been in this situation many a time, can he dig them out of trouble again."

Legendary England National Cricket Team pacer Stuart Broad was also impressed with the performance of Akash and lauded his delivery to dismiss Joe Root. He said:

"Ravi has been praising Akash Deep, and that was an absolute beauty from him. And he quite rightly points to his badge."
