Indian seamer Akash Deep was hilariously involved in a brain-fade moment on Day 5 of the ongoing third Test, and Australian wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey and star batter Travis Head were not happy with that at The Gabba in Brisbane on Wednesday (December 18).
The fifth day of the thrilling third Test between India and Australia of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 kicked off as planned at The Gabba. The action began with Australian skipper Pat Cummins completing his unfinished over from Day 4 in Brisbane.

However, India’s first innings wrapped up quickly, with only 4.5 overs bowled before they were dismissed for 260 runs, thanks to a 47-run partnership between Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah for the tenth wicket to help the tourists avoid the follow-on against Australia at The Gabba.
However, rain and lightning further delayed the start of Australia's second innings in the ongoing Gabba Test. Meanwhile, a hilarious moment left one and all breaking into laughter during the intense morning session, and it was Nathan Lyon’s second over that brought a funny moment.
Australian spinner Nathan Lyon delivered a flighted ball, which Akash Deep defended, only for the ball to amusingly stick to the flap of his front pad, offering a light-hearted moment to the players, commentators, and fans as well. And Alex Carey was like, Where is the ball?

Well, Travis Head, who was fielding at forward short leg, stepped forward to get the ball as Akash Deep removed it from his pads. Travis Head signaled for Akash to hand over the ball, but the Indian pacer, unaware of his request, placed it on the ground instead, leaving the Australian batter puzzled and irritated at the same time.
Once Akash realized his mistake, he quickly said, “Sorry, sorry," to Travis Head, invoking a laugh not only from the commentators but also a wry smile from the Australian star. Later, Akash and Head shared a light-hearted laugh over the incident that is now going viral on social media.

Interestingly, Nathan Lyon took a review for a catch at forward short leg, but the ball clearly went off the pad. Akash had advanced down the pitch but was beaten by the turn and bounce. While it was close to the inside edge, replays confirmed a gap between the bat and the ball. The ball had only struck the pad before lobbing to Head, resulting in them losing the review.

Travis Head and Alex Carey finally removed Akash Deep on Day 5
Meanwhile, Akash Deep had a bad day with the ball, but he made amends with brilliant batting, making valuable 31 runs off 44 and adding 47 runs with Jasprit Bumrah (10*) to help the Indian cricket team avoid the follow-on and take them to 260 runs on the board against Australia.
However, Travis Head stumped out Akash. Alex Carey quickly whipped off the bails, as he was confident that India’s number 11 batter had his foot out of the crease. Replays also confirmed that Akash’s foot was on the line and he was declared out.
The dismissal came off a slider as Akash lunged forward in defense, missing the ball, and couldn’t get his foot back in time. Carey's sharp wicketkeeping ensured Australia secured a 185-run first-innings lead in the ongoing Gabba Test.
