Former England captain Sir Alastair Cook mimicked Team India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant’s iconic falling scoop shot following the recent Test series, which concluded with a 2-2 draw. Cook recreated the shot while serving as a commentator during the ongoing ‘The Hundred’ tournament in England.
Rishabh was in good form during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy before suffering a toe injury on the first day at Old Trafford while attempting a reverse sweep against Chris Woakes. He scored a half-century on Day 2, but the injury prevented him from keeping wickets and ruled him out of the final Test.

Alastair Cook imitated Rishabh Pant’s signature falling scoop shot and poked fun at the left-handed batsman’s attempt to make the move look stylish. Cook said that Pant adds a roll to make it appear more elegant. He also joked that he’s too old to attempt the roll.
“What about the Rishabh Pant roly-poly ramp?” former England Women’s captain and presenter Isa Guha asked Cook (via BBC Sport).
“What he was doing was playing the paddle sweep, but what he wanted is more pace on the ball to get really in the lines. So, as he went down, he’d use the pace and then yes on TV, I’m going to roll over and make it look glamorous and hope it goes for four,” Cook replied.
“Well, I’m a bit old for that now, so I can’t do any more roly-polies,” he added.

Alastair Cook Teases David Warner to Imitate Pant’s Signature Scoop
Alastair Cook challenged David Warner to imitate Pant’s signature falling scoop shot. Warner mimicked the shot by dropping to his knees and scooping the ball over the field before rolling away. Cook added that Pant claims the shot gives better elevation, but he suspects it’s mainly for style.
“Actually, you could do it,” Cook said.
“So you got down early, and you went like… that!” Warner stated.
“Well, you get elevation doing it apparently. Rishabh Pant’s been tweeting us, saying about elevation. But I think he’s doing it for style tricks,” Cook said.

Rishabh Pant’s Performance in the England-India Test Series
Pant scored 479 runs in seven innings at an impressive average of 68.42, including two centuries and three half-centuries during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. He broke legendary cricketer MS Dhoni’s record for the most Test centuries by an Indian wicketkeeper-batsman.
Pant struggled with injuries throughout the series. He sustained a finger injury in the third Test at Lord’s, with substitute Dhruv Jurel keeping wickets. Pant suffered a foot injury in the fourth Test while attempting a reverse sweep, which led to Jurel taking over wicketkeeping duties once again.
Pant was ruled out of the fifth and final Test at The Oval. The 27-year-old is also likely to miss the upcoming 2025 Asia Cup and India’s home Test series against the West Indies.
