Virat Kohli, on Tuesday (June 3), failed to convert his start into a big score during the ongoing IPL 2025 final between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The right-handed batsman and Phil Salt opened the innings for RCB after PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bowl first.

Salt gave RCB a promising start by hitting Arshdeep Singh for a four and a six in the very first over but was dismissed by Kyle Jamieson in the second over.

Virat struggled throughout

Virat and Mayank Agarwal then steadied the ship by taking the score past the 50-run mark before the latter was dismissed by Yuzvendra Chahal for 24 runs.

It was followed by a 40-run stand between Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar before the latter was dismissed by Jamieson for 26.

With the likes of Mayank and Patidar failing to capitalise on the starts, the onus was on Virat Kohli to convert his start into a big score. However, the former RCB skipper failed to score big as he was dismissed by Azmatullah Omarzai in the 15th over.

On the 5th ball of the over, the Afghanistan star bowled a short ball and Virat decided to go for a pull shot. However, the ball kept rising and Kohli could not make a good connection. He top-edged the ball towards the on-side.

Omarzai gets the big fish

At first, it looked like the ball would land safely but Omarzai had other ideas. The PBKS allrounder charged towards the ball and made a last-minute dive to take a brilliant catch.

As Omarzai completed the catch, the cameras spotted a stunned Anushka Sharma finding it tough to believe that Kohli was out. The right-handed batsman departed after scoring 43 runs off 35 balls.

Coming to the game, RCB were on 158/4 in the 17th over at the time of writing this report. Liam Livingstone and Jitesh Sharma were batting in the middle for the Bengaluru-based outfit.
