Meanwhile, the final group-stage clash between India and New Zealand in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 was a landmark game for Virat Kohli. Expectations were high from the star batter to deliver a strong performance in his 300th ODI for India, but he couldn’t make a big impact with the bat.

Walking in to bat at No. 3, Kohli managed just 11 runs off 14 balls, hitting two boundaries before being dismissed by Matt Henry, as Glenn Phillips pulled off a stunning one-handed catch, diving to his right to spoil the right-handed batter’s milestone match against the Black Caps.

Matt Henry and Varun Chakravarthy shine with the ball in New Zealand vs India Match

Matt Henry, who played a crucial role in New Zealand’s historic Test series clean sweep in India last year, once again troubled the Indian batters. He finished with impressive figures of 5 for 42 in his eight overs, helping New Zealand restrict India to 249/9 in their 50 overs.

For India, Shreyas Iyer was the top scorer with a steady 79 off 98 balls. He built a crucial 98-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Axar Patel, who contributed 42 off 61 balls. Despite their efforts, India couldn’t get past the 250-run mark. However, the Indian spinners turned the tide and won the game for the side by 44 runs in Dubai on Sunday.

Varun Chakravarthy claimed a five-wicket haul while Kuldeep Yadav snared two wickets to help the Men in Blue restrict the Kiwis to 205 runs inside 46 overs, winning the game by 44 runs. India will now face Australia while New Zealand will face South Africa in the semifinals of the CT 2025.
