Former India fast bowler Ashish Nehra is known for his quick-witted responses and humorous nature. After the first T20I between India and Sri Lanka at Pallekele, Jaiswal spoke to the host broadcaster about his innings and India's emphatic win.

During the chat with Sony Sports Network, Nehra trolled Jaiswal with a remark on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Earlier, Jaiswal was asked about the difference when Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were there in the Playing XI.

Nehra replied to this by saying that Jaiswal would have only played such shots in the nets had Kohli and Rohit been there as the left-handed opener wouldn't have found a place in the batting line-up. The youngster had no answer for Nehra's quick-witted remark.

"Ajay Jadeja asked you what's the difference when Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were there (to open in T20Is). According to me, there is just one difference. If Virat and Rohit were still playing this format, then whatever strokes we saw from you today, you would have played those in the nets.

Now you are getting to play those shots in the match because they (Virat and Rohit) are not there," Nehra stated as everyone in the panel and Jaiswal shared a light moment.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma retired from the T20I format after India's title win in the T20 World Cup 2024 last month. Both Rohit and Kohli played key roles in India's win.

Rohit emerged as the second-highest run-getter of the tournament with 257 runs in eight matches and provided India quick starts at the top.

On the other hand, Kohli had a disappointing tournament but scored a valuable 76 off 59 balls in the final and was adjudged Playe of the Match.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was also in India's squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 but he did not play a game as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were preferred as the openers.

After the retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill have been preferred as India's openers in T20I cricket.

Jaiswal had a fabulous outing in the first T20I against Sri Lanka, where he scored 40 off 21 balls and hit 5 fours and 2 sixes during his knock. His opening partner Shubman Gill too scored a fiery 34 off just 16 balls to provide India a flying start.

Jaiswal and Gill collected 74 runs in the first 6 overs and made full use of the powerplay restrictions. Apart from Jaiswal and Gill, skipper Suryakumar Yadav also scored a blistering 58 off 26 balls to continue the run rate.

WIcketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant struggled during his time in the middle but managed to score 49 off 33 balls as India scored a mammoth 213-7 in the first innings.

In reply, Sri Lanka were bowled out for just 170 in 19.2 overs. India have taken a 1-0 lead in the series with two more T20Is to go.
