Sri Lanka pacer Asitha Fernando was left red-faced as his wild celebration turned into regret during the ongoing first ODI against India at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

The incident took place in the third over when he was bowling to India captain Rohit Sharma. Earlier in the innings, the right-arm pacer was hit for a six and a four by Rohit Sharma. In the very first over of the innings, the India opener hit Asitha Fernando for a six on the second ball before hitting a four as well to give his team a flying start.

And in his next over, Asitha Fernando had his man on the very first ball or nearly had him as Rohit Sharma was given out lbw. The ball moved in sharply and beat the bat before going on to hit Rohit on the pads. The Sri Lankan players appealed for an LBW and the umpire had no hesitation in raising his finger.

It was followed by a wild celebration from Asitha Fernando. As soon as the umpire raised his finger, the Sri Lanka pacer let out a huge roar before doing his trademark 'crotch chop' celebration. He made a gesture toward his groin area with his arms as he celebrated the big wicket.

In the meantime, Rohit decided to review the decision after a brief discussion with his batting partner Shubman Gill. The replays showed that while there was no inside edge, the ball was going over the stumps. As a result, the umpire had to overturn his original decision, leaving Asitha Fernando red-faced.

Watch Asitha Fernando's reaction:

This is not the first time that Fernando has done this celebration against India. Earlier during the T20I series, he had come up with a similar celebration after dismissing India captain Suryakumar Yadav in the third game.

Talking about the game, India have started strongly with the bat. At the time of writing this report, India were on 80 for 1 after 14 overs. Rohit and Gill added 75 runs for the first wicket before the latter departed for 16. Earlier in the game, Sri Lanka finished their innings on 230 for 8.
