Western Australia fast bowler Brody Couch secured the first hat-trick in the Sheffield Shield in five years during the match against Tasmania in Hobart. Brody Couch helped the Western Australia team to secure back-to-back victories over Tasmania in the ongoing domestic red ball tournament in Australia.

The three-time reigning Sheffield Shield champions required four wickets in the final session to defeat Tasmania for the second consecutive match in the tournament. Couch picked up three of the four wickets in his first over after the break during the fourth day of the match in Hobart on Monday, November 4.

Western Australia Pacer Brody Couch Secures Hat Trick in Hobart

Brody Couch first trapped Jake Doran, who scored 12 from 144 balls, lbw while bowling around the wicket. The pacer bowled a short-pitched ball that knocked over Lawrence Neil-Smith's off-stump. He completed the hat-trick by a fuller ball that beat Kieran Elliott’s outside edge and clipped the off-stump.

cricket.com.au shared the clip of Brody Couch securing a hat trick on their social media account on X (formerly known as Twitter) with the caption "HAT-TRICK! LBW, bowled, bowled - well done Brody Couch!"

Brody Couch celebrated his hat-trick before being mobbed by teammates. He helped Western Australia secure an innings and 45-run victory, with two hours left in the day. Couch's hat-trick marks the first in the Sheffield Shield since 2019, when Queensland bowler Mitch Swepson took one against Victoria.

Hilton Cartwright Named Player of the Match for His Impressive Knock

WA dismissed Tasmania for just 98 runs, even without their seasoned bowler Matt Kelly, who suffered a quad strain on the second day. Hilton Cartwright was awarded player of the match for his impressive first-innings score of 153. Western Australia recorded a massive total of 460/9 in one innings.

Tasmania tried to play for a draw on the final day. Brody Couch took 3 wickets for 15 runs in 14 overs, while Joel Paris and Cam Gannon secured two wickets each. WA took two late wickets on day three. The Ashton Turner-led team remains undefeated in the tournament, with one win and one draw.

Ashton Agar Picked Up Three Wickets In Second Innings

Former WA player Brad Hope partnered with Jake Doran for a crucial sixth-wicket stand. However, Hope's dismissal in the second session allowed WA to target the lower order. Seamer Matt Kelly did not bowl in the second innings due to a quad strain sustained on day two.

Ashton Agar, returning to first-class cricket after nearly two years, bowled the nightwatchman Gabe Bell and trapped Tigers captain Jordan Silk LBW during his opening spell.
