The ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024 got underway on September 3, but within three days of the start, the tournament produced several enthralling moments. One such moment unfolded during the first match between India A and India B at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
The real drama unfolded between Sarfaraz Khan and Avesh Khan at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The incident took place in the 18th over of the first ball of India B’s second innings on Day 3 of the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024 on September 7.
Avesh Khan dismisses Sarfaraz Khan in a high-stakes duel in Duleep Trophy 2024
In the 18th over, Avesh Khan made a crucial breakthrough for India A, dismissing Sarfaraz Khan, who was caught by the wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel, as the Mumbai batter's struggle with the bat continued. Sarfaraz, trying to cut a ball that had extra bounce, managed only a thick edge.
The delivery was close to him, and he was slightly cramped for space, causing him to lose control of the shot. The edge was well-held by Jurel, who plucked the stunning catch to secure his fourth dismissal of the inning.
Sarfaraz Khan's innings ended at 46 runs from 36 balls, including seven boundaries and one six. Following the dismissal, Avesh Khan and the 26-year-old batter had an intense battle in eye to eye.
After taking a crucial wicket, Avesh Khan was visibly pumped and celebrated Sarfaraz Khan's wicket with a roar, and the India B batter was certainly not happy with the way India A pacer was coming to face, as he was showing eye-to-eye gesture while starring at the bowler in Bengaluru.

Earlier in the match, Sarfaraz's younger brother Musheer Khan's outstanding 181-run innings, combined with a 205-run partnership with Navdeep Saini (56), propelled India B to a commanding first-inning total of 321 runs against India A in Bengaluru.

In reply, the Shubman Gill-led India A side faltered, being dismissed for 231 runs. Saini and Mukesh Kumar each took three wickets to put them behind in the game. During the second innings, despite early wickets falling to Yashasvi Jaiswal and Abhimanyu Easwaran, India B extended their lead.
Currently, India B’s score read 150/6, taking a 240-run lead at the stump with Washington Sundar (6*) resuming the play on Day 4 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Rishabh Pant made 61 runs off 47 balls and studded with 9 fours and 2 sixes against India A on Sunday.
With a 240-run lead and four wickets remaining, it will be interesting to see how India B approaches the game on Day 4 to win the first game of the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024 in Bengaluru.
