India's left-arm spinner Axar Patel looked in superb form with the ball during the team's opening match of Champions Trophy 2025 against Bangladesh. Axar came into the attack in the eighth over of the match but didn't take much time to get amongst the wickets.

In just his second ball of the day, Axar Patel angled across a ball bowled from around the wicket. Tanzid Hasan tried to punch the ball through the off-side but the ball didn't turn and went straight. Tanzid got an edge and the catch was sharply taken by KL Rahul behind the wickets.

Axar wasn't convinced that the batter had been dismissed and didn't let out an appeal. However, the wicketkeeper KL Rahul was fully convinced that there was an edge and immediately went up. After an appeal, the umpire Paul Reiffel ruled the batter out following a delay.

Tanzid had a discussion with the non-striker Towhid Hridoy but eventually decided to walk away. Later, it was found that the batter had nicked the ball behind and Rahul was right to go up in an appeal.

It was the big wicket as Tanzid Hasan looked good during his short stay at the crease. He was dismsised for a run-a-ball 25 which included 4 fours. The left-hander was aggressive throughout his knock and looked to take the attack to the opposition.

Axar Patel misses out on a hat-trick

It was also a great catch by KL Rahul behind the stumps. Axar Patel struck again in the next ball as he got the big wicket of Mushfiqur Rahim for a golden duck.

Axar flighted a length delivery which turned just enough to catch the outside edge of Rahim's bat. KL Rahul made no mistake again and took another sharp catch behind the stumps.

Axar could have got a hat-trick, however, India's captain Rohit Sharma dropped an easy catch at first slip. However, the left-arm spinner had already pushed Bangladesh on the back foot.

The wicket of Mushfiqur Rahim had reduced Bangladesh to 35-5. But Jaker Ali and Towhid Hridoy formed a fighting partnership to steady Bangladesh's ship.

Indian quicks start well

Earlier, India's fast bowlers started the day brilliantly for their team. Mohammed Shami and Harshit Rana picked up three wickets with the new ball to put India ahead.

Shami struck in his first over to dismiss Soumya Sarkar for a duck. Harshit Rana followed up the pressure from the other end and removed Bangladesh's captain Najmul Hossain Shanto for a second-ball duck.

As a good partnership was building, Shami continued his good spell with the wicket of Mehidy Hasan Miraz for just 5 runs, which reduced Bangladesh to 26-3 in less than 7 overs.

It is the first match for both the teams in the tournament and both will be eyeing a winning start to their campaign. India have been in good ODI form recently while Bangladesh are short of 50-over cricket.
