Axar Patel gets injured during the first innings

Spin-bowling all-rounder Axar Patel has looked in remarkable form in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has led the Delhi Capitals from the front and has been batting and bowling really well in IPL 2025.

In the match against the Kolkata Knight Riders, Axar Patel looked threatening with the ball, and he troubled the batters. He completed his quota of four overs in the match and returned with brilliant bowling figures of 4-0-27-2.

Axar picked his first wicket of the innings by dismissing KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane LBW on the second ball of the 8th over. Then, he dismissed the KKR vice-captain Venkatesh Iyer on the second ball of the 10th over to leave KKR struggling at 113/4.

However, Axar was part of an unfortunate moment during the 18th over of the innings. On the fourth ball of the over, Vipraj Nigam bowled a googly to Rovman Powell, who played it towards mid-wicket, where Axar Patel made a diving stop to prevent the single.

However, in the process, Axar injured his finger. He looked in agonizing pain after the incident and was taken off the field instantly.

We wanted to focus on the process, not worry about the result - Axar Patel

Speaking at the toss, DC skipper Axar said that they need to stay in the present after poor performances in the last few matches. He added that they only want to focus on the process, and the result will take care of itself. He said:

"We are playing with the same XI. I think it's a slow wicket, doesn't look dry. Think a 190-200 pitch. Will assess the conditions and try to restrict them to a lower total. You need to stay in the present. We wanted to focus on the process, not worry about the result. Need to excecute our plans."

KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane, meanwhile, said that they are looking to focus on one game at a time and would want to adapt to conditions in Delhi quickly. He said:

"I thought the left-arm spinner will be a good option on this surface. We need to win five out of five, as simple as that. We are looking to play one game at a time and we will move forward accordingly. It's hard to read this wicket. Need to adapt to the conditions and assess quickly."
