Young batter Ayush Badoni made headlines with his batting performance in the opening game of the Delhi Premier League between South Delhi Superstarz and Purani Dilli-6.

Badoni smashed four consecutive sixes against Ankit Bhadana in the recent match of the Delhi Premier League 2024 season.

The inaugural edition of the Delhi Premier League kicked off at the Arun Jaitley International Cricket Stadium in Delhi on Saturday, August 17.

Prominent cricket players from the city, including Rishabh Pant, Ishant Sharma, Lalit Yadav, and Badoni, will be taking part in the state T20 competition.

Purani Dilli-6 was asked to bat first in the opening clash of the Delhi Premier League. Arpit Rana scored 59 off 41 balls and Vansh Bedi added 47 off 19 balls, including four boundaries and as many sixes.

Lalit Yadav (34* off 21) and Rishabh Pant (35 off 32) helped the team reach 197/3 in their allotted 20 overs.

Chasing 198, South Delhi Superstarz openers Priyansh Arya and Sarthak Ray added 73 runs in the powerplay. Shivam Sharma broke the 87-run opening stand by dismissing Sarthak Ray, who scored 41 runs off 26 balls with four boundaries and three sixes. Ayush Badoni came to bat at No. 3 in the seventh over.

Badoni unleashed a powerful attack against Ankit Bhadana in the 12th over. The right-handed batter smashed four consecutive sixes off the last four balls of the over. His aggressive batting took the South Delhi Superstarz's score to 140/1 after 12 overs.

The Delhi Premier League shared the video on their X (formerly Twitter) account with the caption, "Four 6️⃣s in a row by Captain Ayush Badoni."

Badoni was dismissed for 57 off 29 balls, including one four and six maximums. Purani Dilli-6 gained momentum after Arya's dismissal.

The team lost six wickets in quick succession and collapsed from 152-1 to 183-7. Vision Panchal, who scored 13 runs off 7 deliveries, helped his team win by three wickets.

I Was Expecting A Bit More - Badoni

Badoni said that he remained confident in their ability to chase the target. The middle-order batter said that they would have preferred to secure the victory with six wickets in hand. Badoni highlighted that the ball was coming well on the bat, and the team felt the win was assured.

"Honestly I was expecting a bit more, but I knew we would chase it. The ball was coming on nicely on the bat and my mates were confident that it was an easy win, we would have liked to win off course by keeping 6 wickets in hand that is the area we need to work on," Badoni said after the match.
