Pakistan National Cricket Team batter Babar Azam's torrid run with the bat continued even in the final of the tri-series against the New Zealand National Cricket Team. The match between the two teams is taking place at the National Stadium in Karachi.
Babar Azam, who has been asked to open the innings in the ODIs ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, hasn't been able to adapt to the new batting position. After failing in the last two games, it was expected that he would set the stage on fire in the final but that wasn't the case as he bagged another low score.
Babar Azam gives an easy catch to Nathan Smith
Babar started off well, and it seemed that he would go big, but in what was the same story, he perished after having a start. With wickets falling at the other end, it looked like he would soak in all the pressure and bail his team out of trouble, but pacer Nathan Smith got the best of him.
Nathan Smith bowled a delivery that was full outside off. Babar went for a drive but ended up playing it back to the bowler. It wasn't any special delivery and could've been easily negotiated but the Pakistan National Cricket Team batter failed to keep it down and ended up giving an easy catch to Smith.
As soon as Babar hit it, he knew he made a mess of it and was in trouble. He dropped his bat to the turf in disappointment before going back. With his dismissal, fans in the stadium went extremely silent.

Babar Azam surpasses 6000 runs in ODI cricket, becomes joint fastest to achieve the feat
Babar played some magnificent shots in his innings and entertained the crowd. During his knock, he also surpassed 6000 runs in ODI cricket as he became the joint fastest batter to achieve the feat. He got to the landmark in his 123rd innings, joining former South Africa player Hashim Amla.
In the ongoing tri-series, Babar has struggled as an opener and has registered scores of 10(23), 23(19) & 29(34). Him not getting runs will be a massive cause of concern for the Pakistan National Cricket Team ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which will begin on 19th February.
After Saim Ayub was ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to an ankle injury, Babar Azam was given the responsibility of opening the innings. The reports claimed that management, including selectors, were in favor of him going to the top.
It was learned that team management believes that he can play the same role that Sachin Tendulkar played for India after becoming the opener. However, the move so far hasn't paid off, and it remains to be seen how he will fare in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
