England opening batter Ben Duckett almost hit the stumps with his bat in frustration during the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025 match against South Africa. Duckett was seen venting his frustration after his dismissal off left-arm pacer Marco Jansen in the 11th match of the marquee tournament.

England skipper Jos Buttler opted to bat after winning the toss at the National Stadium in Karachi on Saturday, March 1. However, the English team lost the wicket of Phil Salt, who scored 8 runs off 6 balls in the first over. Marco Jansen picked up his second wicket by dismissing Jamie Smith in the third over.

The incident occurred on the 5th ball of the seventh over of England's innings. Marco Jansen dismissed Ben Duckett with a caught-and-bowled effort. Duckett mistimed a flick shot on a length ball angling down the leg side. The ball took the leading edge, and Jansen reacted quickly in his follow-through.

The South Africa bowler stretched out to his left to take a well-judged catch. Duckett departed after scoring 24 off 21 balls, including four boundaries. The 30-year-old batter swung his bat in frustration for the mistimed shot and almost hit the stumps. England collapsed to 37/3 despite winning the toss.

Official broadcaster Star took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share the clip of the dismissal with the caption, "#MarcoJansen picks up his 3rd wicket, sending the in-form #BenDuckett back! "

Ben Duckett performed well in his first two matches in the ongoing tournament. The left-handed batter started his campaign with 165 runs off 143 balls against Australia. However, his knock went in vain as Australia secured the victory. He smashed 38 runs off 45 balls in the second game against Afghanistan.

It Was a Poor Delivery Really - Chris Woakes

Reflecting on Ben Duckett's dismissal, England cricketer Chris Woakes called it a soft one. He noted that the delivery was poor and would have likely been called a wide. Woakes said Duckett would feel he could have either played the ball for four or left it.

"A soft dismissal. It was a poor delivery really, and would have been called a wide. It's unfortunate for Duckett. He will feel as though he could have easily played that for four or just left it completely," Woakes said on BBC Sounds.

England have scored 62 runs for 3 wickets by the end of the powerplay. The team has lost three wickets to Marco Jansen, with Phil Salt, Jamie Smith, and Ben Duckett all dismissed. Joe Root and Harry Brook are trying to steady the innings with a partnership in their final match of the ongoing ICC tournament.

England had already been eliminated from the tournament after suffering back-to-back losses, starting with a defeat to Australia followed by another loss to Afghanistan. They will be hoping to end the tournament with a consolation win under Jos Buttler, who has resigned as the white-ball coach.
